Xavier Dolan, known for his highly acclaimed ‘coming of age’ film “Mommy” and most recent work “It’s Only The End Of The World”, has confirmed the making of the tremendously anticipated movie “The Death And Life Of John F. Donovan” with a star-studded cast.
The film, set for release in 2017, boasts A-list actors such as Natalie Portman, Nicholas Hoult, Thandie Newton, Kit Harington, Jessica Chastain, Susan Sarandon, Kathy Bates, Michael Gambon, Bella Thorne, Chris Zylka, Taylor Kitsch and Emily Hampshire as well as international singing sensation, Adele! Check out casting here.
To summarise “The Death and Life of John F. Donovan,”: a decade after the death of an American TV star he shared correspondence with as a teenager, a buddy actor recollects the pen-pal relationship he used to have with his past idol. The film explores the hardships of fame and hurdles of the movie business through the lives of both, now and then. It also reflects on the issue of identity and diversity in Hollywood over the 10 years.
Dolan previously worked with Adele on the music video for her iconic song, “Hello” which broke Taylor Swift’s record for most watched video on its debut day, clocking more than 27 million views in 24 hours. Read more about the making of the hit video here.
The film, also written by Xavier Dolan, is set to be produced with Nancy Grant and Lyse Lafontaine of Lyla Films with Joe Iacono as executive producer.
We expect this film to have great success given the impressive accolades given to Dolan’s latest movie, “It’s Only the End of the World,” starring Marion Cotillard, Lea Seydoux and Vincent Cassel, which won the Grand Prix and the Ecumenical Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival 2016.
Unfortunately, Adele isn’t set to record any original music for the film, but we can always hope! Let us know whether you’re excited for “The Death and Life of John F. Donovan” and Adele’s first acting role at @CelebMix on Twitter.
