Full of surprises and memorable performances, the 2016 Billboard Music Awards has shaped up to be a showstopper. On top of winning the Top Billboard 200 Album and Top Artist award for her record-breaking LP, 25, superstar Adele just unleashed her brand new music video for latest single, Send My Love (To Your New Lover).
The soul singer continues her reign over the music industry with a music video worth every piece of attention it is garnering. Donned in a floral Dolce & Gabbana number, Adele is front and centre as simple acoustic picking and muted strumming starts off the video. The catchy chorus and its layered visuals collide with the somewhat haunting lyrics:
“We gotta let go of all our ghosts,
We both know we ain’t kids no more.”
According to Billboard, Adele teamed up with stylist Gaelle Paul to sort through fashion choices — at one point, sequins were considered — until only one gown was left standing: a “flowy elevated hippie” garment.
Gaelle Paul spoke to Billboard about the wardrobe decisions, citing sequins as a definite possibility:
“We had talked about lighter fabrics and also possibly something that reflected the light,”
However, it was the long gown from Dolce & Gabbana’s 2016 Ready To Wear collection that eventually won out. “It’s a great trend — I love the ‘60s and ‘70s references — and Adele wears it beautifully.” said Gaelle Paul.
Sequins or not, the songstress definitely delivers in this music video.
