Texas-based soul/R&B artist Alesia Lani unveils her brand-new album, Self Titled, via Trailing Twelve Records, a collection of songs Lani describes as her “personal diary.”
Speaking about Self Titled, Lani shares, “I just want to thank everyone who had a hand in this project. I have to say it’s the most special to me by far…but there’s more to come.”
Written through a global pandemic and the turbulence of divorce, Self Titled represents a Phoenix-like renaissance for Lani, allowing her to reintroduce herself as she reveals her innermost feelings.
Two tracks from the album, “I Don’t Mind” and “What You Know About It,” were recently featured on VH1’s ‘Caught In The Act: Unfaithful.’ Produced by Tim Palmer and Jon Keyz, Self Titled includes guest features from Jackie Venson, Megz from Magna Carda, and The Teeta.
Embracing nine tracks, entry points include opener “I Don’t Mind,” riding a fat, funky bassline, sensuous vocal harmonies, and Lani’s voluptuously confident voice, imbuing the lyrics with cool self-assurance.
“I don’t mind / Don’t waste my time.”
The hip-hop/R&B-laced “Better” rides a tantalizing trap beat and dark sub-bass, infusing the tune with an empowering rhythm as swanky harmonies underscore Lani’s lusciously captivating flow.
“May think I’m hoping for the worst / But I’m wishing you the best / No more holding on to hurt / That went out with my wedding dress.”
A personal favorite because of its bossa nova rhythmic pulse, “Lean Into You” evokes a lush, quixotic mood as Lani narrates the delicious sensation of falling in love.
“I try to fight it but I can’t win / When it comes to you I just give in / Cause I don’t really like nobody babe, nobody / Ain’t no complaints cause I’m so into you.”
Drenched in heavy rock flavors, “Breaking Me Down” surges with thick, muscular energy. Whereas the sultry “Ay Mama” undulates with tasty tangs of potent eroticism as Lani struts the range of her seductive voice.
“I can make you work / Make you beg for it / Take you to church and make ya pray for it / Make you wait for.”
With Self Titled, Alesia Lani turns loose her creativity, liberating her vulnerability, belief in herself, and her sumptuous voice.
