Indie folk singer-songwriter Amelie Lucille recently dropped her self-titled debut EP, a seven-track collection of exquisite, intimate, and captivating music.
Amelie explains, “I want to live in any time besides now. I am almost 15 and I envy anyone that was able to experience the world when it wasn’t so impersonal. The movies, the style, the people, but most of all, the music. I dream of seeing my favorite bands live – The Cure, The Police, Cocteau Twins, Fleetwood Mac, Belle and Sebastian, Björk, and The Sundays. There is so much I feel like I have missed out on. Music is what takes me there.”
She goes on, “This album is my growing-up album. It’s the first real thing I’ve ever made. Some of the songs are based on my very first experiences but others came straight from my imagination. Even though most of my songs are about love, I am yet to feel the way I write. I can’t wait to fall in love, even if it is followed by a heartbreak because it would have meant that I felt for someone, and I would love to make another album about that.”
The EP begins with “Mess,” opening with Amelie’s gorgeous acapella voice, followed by the entry of an acoustic guitar and melancholic strings. At once haunting and evocative, Amelie’s vocals imbue the lyrics with poignant, alluring tones.
Highlights include “His Song,” a beguiling folk tune revealing the ample range of Amelie’s vocals, expressing authentic, vulnerable feelings.
“Everything we felt in now in the past / Guess I was hoping it wouldn’t end this fast.”
Alluringly beautiful yet suffused with sad emotions, and perhaps the best track on the EP, “Disposable Cameras” trembles with rippling sonic nuances as tender strings deliver crying timbres, underscoring the evocative vocals of Amelie.
The last track, “Because of You,” totally shifts the harmonic current of the EP, offering a tune dripping with folk-rock tinted with country-pop tangs. Gleaming electric guitars, a throbbing bassline, and crisp percussion infuse the rhythm with a delicious pushing flow as Amelie struts her crème de la crème voice.
Amelie Lucille has it going on! With her debut EP, Amelie Lucille immediately establishes herself as a gifted, musical enchantress.
