Melbourne, Australia-based indie/electro artist American Doubles releases their brand new single, “Just Can’t Get Enough.”
American Doubles explains, “I’m describing a passionate affair with a girl that I know is no good for me, but enjoying it too much to stop. You can come up with your own interpretation of what it (the video) is… ‘Reservoir Dogs,’ Quentin Tarantino’s film, is the obvious inspiration, hiding out in a warehouse with me being sat in a chair by my captors, chastised and tortured before almost having my ear sliced off with a knife.”
American Doubles arrived in 2017, releasing their single “The Swell,” receiving praise from the staff at Triple J Radio, and received airplay on radio stations across Australia. The accompanying music video premiered via Music Feeds and live at the National Film & Sound Archive of Australia, alongside Radiohead’s “Daydreaming” video.
Working with multi-Aria Award-winning producer Jimi Maroudas and multi-Grammy Award-winning producer Chris ’TEK’ O’Ryan, who executive produced and mixed both “Just Can’t Get Enough” and “Can’t Let Go,” American Doubles creates not only memorable music but stunning videos.
“Just Can’t Get Enough” opens on emerging, layered tones topped by deliciously whispery vocals, and then flows into a mid-tempo dance rhythm made up of tight, crunching percussion and a wickedly fat, rolling bassline.
Gliding on creamy timbres, the luscious falsetto voice of Robert Smith imbues the lyrics with alluring, quixotic savors.
Although not yet released, the video, directed by Tim Madden, was filmed in one take at a warehouse in Sydney, Australia. The visuals depict a group of men in dark suits, one wounded on the floor, with two others pointing guns at each other. Another man is focused on extracting information out of a man bound to a chair.
As the torture begins, a woman enters, shooting two of the men. She releases the captive, and they leave. At once surreal and savage, the video delivers raw intensity.
American Doubles has it going on! Low-slung yet powerfully vibrant, “Just Can’t Get Enough” throbs with haunting energy.
