This week, Avril Lavigne dropped her fourth single from her recently released sixth studio album Head Above Water, titled “I Fell In Love With The Devil”. The new release is titled as the radio edit of the album track, coming in at 37 seconds shorter than the original. The single follows up her collaborative single with Ryan Tedder, Luis Fonsi, Hussain Al Jassmi, Assala Nasri & Tamer Hosny, titled “Right Where I’m Supposed To Be” which was officially released as the Special Olympics 2019 theme song.

It was highly suggested that Avril Lavigne was planning to drop a music video for her third single from the Head Above Water album, “Dumb Blonde” which features Nicki Minaj; however, the visual never appeared and presumedly got scrapped. Instead, the song has been added to the official soundtrack of the new film The Hustle which stars Rebel Wilson and Anne Hathaway and was even used as the theme song in the official second trailer. Now, Avril Lavigne is focusing on this new single, “I Fell In Love With The Devil”, and fans are questioning whether this single will get an official music video.

In our track-by-track album review of Head Above Water, we said of the song: “If we had to pick our favourite song from Avril’s new album, ‘I Fell In Love With The Devil’ would be it. Despite referencing Satan himself, Avril’s vocals sound angelic throughout. We’re underneath her spell. The majestic track, which features intricate strings, is about the conflict of head versus heart and the difficulty removing yourself from bad situations. The final minute is particularly haunting.”

The radio edit strips away the instrumental intro and outro, allowing the song itself to shine in every single way. The single artwork comes from the Instagram user badgallavigne, a non-professional freelance designer from Brazil, after this singer-songwriter launched a campaign asking for fans to create the single artwork from an image, Avril Lavigne later picked the winner.

Prior to the release of the single, at the beginning of May, Avril Lavigne performed the track on The Late Late Show with James Corden. This performance sparked rumours that it would be released as the next single.

The album is one of our favourite releases of the year, especially since she spent three years away recovering from Lyme Disease. During that time, she spent many months bedridden and undiagnosed, and her album plunges into her feelings during that time.
