The Black Eyed Peas and Justin Timberlake released ‘Where is the Love?’ in 2001 in wake of the 9/11 tragedies. The video has over 180 million views, and you can’t find a person from this generation who doesn’t know every single word to the song. But even 15 years later, it seems that we’re still trying to answer the question.
It’s been a year of pain, heartache, and misery across the globe, from the attacks in Paris, to the shootings in Orlando, to the ongoing police violence in the United States, and Will.I.Am feels that millennials can play a huge part in putting an end to the issues we face day to day.
“The millennials are powerful, I don’t think they realize just how powerful they are. I hope this song inspires the millennials to go all out, scream from the tallest mountain, care like your freedom depends on it, pay attention like that is at risk.”
So The Black Eyed Peas took it upon themselves to create something to help us find the hope we seem to have lost. With stars like Kendall Jenner, Jaden Smith, Diddy, Jamie Foxx, and more, the band is recreating their hugely popular music video, with hopes that young people will take action.
In a promotional video for the project, Will.I.Am recalls something his grandmother told him during the 9/11 attacks.
“My grandma said a prayer and said that we shouldn’t stay home and be afraid when you’re being called on to do as much healing as you can with the gift that was given to us.”
And it seems as though he’s taking her advice.
The video will be released tomorrow.
