Oscar winner Brie Larson is set to make her West End debut next year, in ‘Elektra’ – an adaptation of Sophocles’ play which has been translated by poet Anne Carson.
Directed by Tony Award nominee Daniel Fish (Oklahoma!), Larson described the drama as a “timeless story” and said she “couldn’t be more excited” to be joining the production.
The show will launch at The Theatre Royal in Brighton this coming January, before transferring to The Duke of York’s Theatre in London for the remainder of its three-month run.
Tickets for the production will go on general sale on Wednesday, October 2nd 2024 at 11am.
Speaking to BBC News, Brie said: “I couldn’t be more excited to perform in this Greek drama, or in better company collaborating with Daniel Fish and Anne Carson. Storytelling has always been the way I organize life, feelings and experiences. I look forward to sharing space with the wonderful West End audience while we explore this timeless story.”
With Fish adding: “What is ancient and what is contemporary? Carson’s translation explodes this question. It is a thrilling challenge to work on Sophocles’s tragedy, by way of Carson’s words, and on the beautiful stage of the Duke of York’s with Brie Larson”.
