With over 56 million views on their new music video for “IDOL,” BTS has broken Taylor’s Swift YouTube record for having the most-watched video in 24 hours.
Swift has held the title ever since she released the music video for “Look What You Made Me Do,” which premiered last year at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. BTS’ view count for their music video is 13 million more than Swift’s, since the “Look What You Made Me Do” video accumulated just over 43 million views in its first day of release.
BTS’ “IDOL” joins the group’s other music videos for the most-viewed YouTube videos in 24 hours, since “Fake Love” and “DNA” also accumulated an impressive number of views. “Fake Love,” which released in May, amassed 35 million views and is the fifth most-watched video on the platform, while “DNA” comes in eleventh place with 22 million views.
“IDOL” is the title track for the group’s latest album, Love Yourself: Answer, which released at the same time as the single’s music video. Upon its release, the album went straight to No. 1 on the U.S. iTunes Top Albums chart, with all 26 of its tracks entering the top 50 of the U.S. iTunes Top Songs chart. “IDOL” claimed the top spot, followed by songs “Euphoria” and “I”m Fine,” as well as the alternative version of “IDOL” featuring Nicki Minaj. A new music video for Minaj’s version of the track will be released in the next few days.
