On September 25, K-Pop group BTS has officially entered Billboard’s ‘Hot 100’ list with their new single “DNA” which came at the No. 85 spot. This makes them the first K-Pop artist to reach that achievement.
The ranking for the Billboard ‘Hot 100′ list is based on the most sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming that a single receives across a week, and exactly one week ago today, both BTS’ single “DNA” and their new album Love Yourself: Her released worldwide.
BTS released the following statement in reaction to entering the Billboard ‘Hot 100’:
As dedicated and passionate artists, BTS, we are thrilled at the success of LOVE YOURSELF: “Her” in its first week entering the Billboard HOT 200 at #7 and the HOT 100 at #85. It shows the impact we are making with our songs about love, relationships, and issues that affect our generation that makes it so amazing for us. We love our fans and this shows us that they understand our message. We will continue to make great music that transcends languages and cultures.
The news comes just after the group’s new album Love Yourself: Her became the first-ever top 10 album for a K-pop act on the Billboard 200 albums chart, coming at #7. This makes them the first K-Pop act to simultaneously be on both the Billboard ‘Hot 100’ list and the 200 albums charts.
Ever since the group won their Billboard Music Award for Top Social Artist earlier this year, the guys have made it their goal to rank on the Billboard charts. Now together with the help of their devoted fanbase – the ARMY – BTS has finally reached that goal.
ARMYs around the world are now celebrating the amazing feat with the hashtag #BTSHOT100, which quickly trended #1 worldwide as soon as the news broke regarding BTS’ Billboard ‘Hot 100’ single.
BTS member Rap Monster also shared his excitement online with a series of tweets. He posted a selfie along with the caption, “We did it! Just heard it from studio thank you soooo much for everything aRMy,” and then added, “and teamwork makes the dream work.”

Rap Monster had a special part in the making of Love Yourself: Her, having writing credits for nearly all of the songs on the album. He tells Billboard, “The lyrics were based on rare and special things in life. So, I thought, those feelings transcend genders, cultures and barriers between people…..our young generation are living their lives with low expectations and standards so people are upset with reality.”
He continues, “They have little hope and there’s so much economic hardship. We wanted to say something about it and emphasize to the world that it’s not their choice, but brutal reality that forces people to live and spend as if there’s no future.”
While the album has only been out for a week, Love Yourself: Her continues to make headlines everyday, setting out to be BTS’ biggest release yet.
