Calvin Harris drops new single ‘Nuh Ready Nuh Ready’ featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR

Calvin Harris is an artist who is unafraid to experiment with his sound. Since making his breakthrough with ‘Acceptable In The 80’s’ back in 2006, over the years we have seen the Scottish DJ and producer drop everything from high energy EDM tracks to the more recent vibey groove-infested Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1.

Now, Calvin is switching things up once more with the release of ‘Nuh Ready Nuh Ready’ featuring Canadian Rapper PARTYNEXTDOOR. The track has an old school 90s RnB/house vibe laced with an underlying reggae, dancehall beat. The two previously worked together on the Funk Wav Bounces Vol 1. track ‘Cash Out’ however, ‘Nuh Ready Nuh Ready’ allows PARTYNEXTDOOR to shine.

Calvin has also released the music video for ‘Nuh Ready Nuh Ready’. The trippy visual sees PARTYNEXTDOOR and a group of dancers deliver choreography in front of an ever changing green screen. Shots of London are also intertwined throughout the visual, giving an overall hypnotic effect.

Speaking to Radio 1’s Annie Mac after ‘Nuh Ready Nuh Ready’ dropped, Calvin discussed his change of musical direction and why he’s now releasing whatever music he feels like at the time.

“At the end of 2016 I put out a tune (‘My Way’). So it came out and it did alright and I was like, ‘Ah great!’ and then I realised I’d never felt so unexcited about what I was putting out in my life. The last album that I did (Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1) was a reaction to that. I was like, you know what? I’m just going to do whatever I want and I’m going to spend all the money that I’m making on Vegas on features and I’m gonna get everyone to do a hip hop album. I’m gonna put Young Thug on a Motown funk tune because no-one else will. It’s not a commercially viable idea and that’s all music is now and I didn’t care so it felt amazing.”

To Calvin’s surprise, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 and its tracks, including the Katy Perry/Pharrell Williams/Big Sean hit ‘Feels’, performed incredibly well. It seems that releasing whatever he’s vibing with at the time is working well for Calvin, and we can’t wait for his new era of music. If ‘Nuh Ready Nuh Ready’ is anything to go by, he’s going to smash the industry once more.

It seems that Las Vegas can’t get enough of Calvin either, as he recently revealed that he’s extended his residency until 2020. He has been a Vegas staple at Omnia nightclub, Caesar’s Palace since 2015.

‘Nuh Ready Nuh Ready’ is available now.
