Fox TV has announced that Carly Rae Jepsen will join the cast of Grease: Live. The Call Me Maybe singer has been given the iconic role of Pink Lady ‘Frenchie’.
It was also announced that pop powerhouse Jessie J will open the live event with a brand new revamped version of the opening title sequence song Grease (Is The Word).
The pair join a multi-talented cast, including Julianne Hough and Aaron Tveit as ‘Sandy’ and ‘Danny’. Other Pink Ladies include Vanessa Hudgens as ‘Rizzo’ and Keke Palmer as ‘Marty’ whilst Carlos PenaVega will also star as T-Bird ‘Kenickie’.
The programme’s Executive Producer is Marc Platt and he will be joined by choreographer Zach Woodlee who’s previous credits include Glee and Hairspray.
A statement made by Fox stated “In this live television adaptation of the musical classic, the beginning of senior year means the end of Danny and Sandy’s summer romance – until Sandy unexpectedly transfers to Danny’s high school. With their friends pulling them in different directions, it’s up to Danny and Sandy to stay hopelessly devoted as they make their way from Rydell High to a new frontier”.
Grease:Live will air on Sunday January 31st 2016 in the US so there is quite a wait, however we can expect Fox to “reintroduce and re-imagine some of the show’s most memorable moments, great music and timeless love story to an entirely new generation”.
