We have a brand new catchy track from Carly Rae Jepsen, titled “Party For One”. This song is set to be her first single from her fourth studio album. This single follows up her previous single “Cut To The Feeling” – which was underrated beyond belief, didn’t draw in chart numbers, but has become a hit over time.
Carly Rae Jepsen is best known for her hit singles “Call Me Maybe”, “Good Time” with Owl City, and “I Really Like You”. She first started by appearing as a contestant on the fifth season of Canadian Idol where she finished in third place. She then went viral with “Call Me Maybe” which hit the charts hard internationally, and she’s been staying in the spotlight since. Her releases show she’s been on a rollercoaster journey since becoming a viral sensation with some follow-up singles not doing so well in comparison to her hits. The same goes for her albums, where her latest Emotion deserved to have done so much better, but it still charted moderately well across all boards. If “Party For One” is anything to go by, we know that this new album is going to be beyond amazing – we cannot wait.
This new single was written by Anton Rundberg, Carly Rae Jepsen, Julia Karlsson, and Tavish Crowe; while it was produced by Captain Cuts and Hightower. The music video itself was directed by Bardia Zeinali. It has product placement from Absolute Vodka and Postmates. It also stars model, Yasmin Geurts; actress, Alisha B. Woods; social media star, Parker Kit Hill; model, Ali Michael; Instagram star, Bread Face; dancer, Mark Kanemura; and Lily Chu, amongst many others.

This song is catchy in a “Curiosity” kind of way, it just feels like it’s missing her usual bang and spark found in her hits. It has a 90’s cheesiness about it which is probably why the spark isn’t quite there; yes, “Call Me Maybe” was cheesy but in a current way, and so was “I Really Like You”, this one is in a throwback to the 90’s kind of way, which probably suggests that this new album is influenced by 90’s music, and if that is true, then we are so ready, because the 90’s had some awesome beats and brilliant lyrics. What we can’t deny is Carly Rae Jepsen’s effortless ability to tell a story through her lyrics and to nail it in the studio to the effect where every word is felt with true passion.
As for the music video we watch Carly Rae Jepsen walk into a hotel lobby and meet Bread Face who passes her a key card. She gets to her room and starts her party for one she gets comfortable by stripping off her skirt and chilling in her Calvin Kleins. The visual then shows off the other people in the hotel who are all having their parties for one, all of whom are different ages, races, sexual orientations, all doing their own thing; then a power cut happens and all these people come together into the lobby. Some of these hotel guests can’t be any more different and yet they come together in the lobby, experiencing the same problem, which is then fixed and they cheer together and celebrate for a few minutes as one; before heading back to their rooms, ready to continue their parties for one.
“Party For One” is available to download and stream through School Boy / Interscope Records, and 604 Records in Canada only. This is her first official single from her upcoming fourth studio album – we cannot wait to see what this era brings her.
