From the first beat of the track, ‘Anybody Out There’ will have you captivated, with the beautiful nature of the track and calm beat throughout. This track showcases her emotive vocals, along with minimalist piano tones.
‘Anybody Out There’ conquers a globally shared social issue through the power of music. This song is a poignant representation of love, compassion, companionship, additionally representing the feeling of loneliness.
”’Anybody Out There’ is about loneliness, something that every single person has experienced at some point in their lives. It’s part of the universal human experience, but it can be really harmful. Whether it’s friends, family or lovers, we need people in our lives to survive. Without these close relationships, we can experience a multitude of issues or mental health problems. This song for me was an expression of how I’ve felt alone at different points in my life and one that I hope can be there for someone who might be experiencing loneliness.”
Astræa is a classically trained pianist and her renditions of tracks ‘Mad World’ and ‘You’re Not Alone’ have been used in recent Lloyds Bank TV adverts, both of which she arranged, produced and performed – a true testament to her talent.
Her version of ‘You’re Not Alone’ has to date received over three million streams and charted in Spotify’s UK Viral Chart, iTunes Main Charts and the iTunes Singer-Songwriter Chart.
Anybody Out There’ represents the first release of Astræa’s own material. After previously selling out a headline show in London, she has announced her next show in London, which will be held at St James’ Church, Piccadilly, on Thursday March 21. Tickets can be bought by clicking here.
CelebMix had the opportunity to speak with Astræa about her new single ‘Anybody Out There,’ her musical influences and more.
You’ve recently released your new single ‘Anybody Out There.’ What does this track mean to you?
“‘Anybody Out There’ is an expression of the loneliness that I’ve felt at different points in my life. I live across the world from most of my friends and family, so loneliness is something I often experience. It’s something that every one of us experiences at one point or another, whether it’s loneliness for a partner, for friends or for family. I wanted to write a song speaking to this universal feeling that we all go through, to be there for people who might be feeling lonely. I produced ‘Anybody Out There’ myself as well, so the song to me feels more personal than anything I’ve put out before.”
How does it feel to now have your own original music released?
“It feels really exciting to me! It can make you feel a little vulnerable sometimes, putting your emotions and experiences on display to the world. But to me, music has always been a form of catharsis and expression. When I finish a song, it’s like I can put that experience aside for a moment and move on from it in a way. I also hope that by speaking my truth that other people can also connect with it and feel less alone in their own struggles and experiences.”
Who are your musical influences?
“I’m heavily influenced by other singer/song-writer pianists, especially Tori Amos. She’s an incredible pianist and has such a unique and emotive voice. Her live performances are unreal. The way she captivates people is incredibly inspiring. I’m also inspired by left-leaning artists like Kate Bush, Florence & The Machine and London Grammar, as well as pop artists like Sia and Sam Smith.”
What have you got planned for 2019 music-wise?
“In 2019, I have several more singles coming (including one in March!) as I work towards a mini-album. I have a big headline gig in London at St James’ Church Piccadilly, which I’m so excited about! The venue is a gorgeous Christopher Wren church, with a stunning Fazioli grand piano, which I’m so excited to play. I’ll be performing with my full band and string section. I also produce for other artists and have a few of those production projects coming up too.”
Finally, do you have a message for your supporters?
“I am so grateful to everyone who has supported my music! As an independent artist, having the support from my listeners means more to me than I can even say. One of the best parts of releasing music is getting those comments and messages from people that say that my song has helped them through a really difficult moment in their life, so thank you for sharing your stories with me. So much love to all of you!”
