Are you ready to go into “Speed Drive”? UK singer-songwriter, pop legend and car enthusiast Charli XCX has just revealed some exciting new information about her upcoming era – leaving fans in a frenzy.
On Friday, the singer posted a clip to Instagram, simply captioned with the words “made something cute“. Charli reveals that she is currently in the studio working on new material for her upcoming era and that she wanted to share some new music with her community in the meantime.
“It’s cute“, she says before hitting ‘play’. After listening to it, we can agree, even though we would use other words than only “cute“. What we can hear is an ecstatic dance-pop with an alarmingly catchy hook and chorus. “I never thought I would find it, but I found what I was looking for/I found it in the city, in the dark/In the city, in your heart“, you can hear, right before the beat drops and Charli stops the music.

Fans are already calling Charli XCX’s new music the “song of the century”
To no suprise, fans are ecstatic about the new music. One person commented that it’s “giving nostalgic 2010s rave / M5 night time drive / true love type beat like wow” while another proclaimed that it’s the “song of the year song of the decade song of the century“. One even said that they “need the song more than air to breathe“.
Among the happy listeners are also collaborators like Addison Rae (“2 Die 4”) and Tiësto (“Hot In It”).
Will THIS celebrity be featured on Charli XCX’s song?
Another celebrity that can be found in the comments is “Unholy” singer Sam Smith. They simply replied with two emojis: the two sideways glancing eyes and an emoji of a city. This leaves fans speculating whether their long-awaited collaboration might be coming sooner than fans thought.
Back in August, Sam had a cameo appearance in Charli XCX’s “Speed Drive” video, asking about the final mix of their song.
“Vroom Vroom”: She is undeniably riding the success wave
Charli XCX is currently one of the most successful acts in the dance-pop genre so it makes complete sense that she would continue on this journey. Not only did her latest album, the 80s & 90s-inspired “Crash”, become her first number one record in the UK, but she also achieved her first top ten hit in the UK with the high-energy hyperpop bop, “Speed Drive“. The latter served as a contribution to the “Barbie” soundtrack and is already certified Silver in the UK, as is the Tiësto collaboration “Hot In It” and lead single “Beg For You”.
