Indie-pop artist chasing luma, aka Luke MacDonald, unveils his brand-new single, “paradise.”
Speaking to the song, chasing luma shares, “‘paradise’ is an ode to being alone. By nature, I’m a very non-confrontational person and when writing this song, I thought it would be interesting to write from the perspective of a character who is much better at dealing with the unpleasantries of ending a relationship. I co-wrote this song with my friend Ryan, and he really helped push me beyond my comfort zone to write such a bold song by my usual standards. through this process, I feel like I become more like the character I created and have since become more motivated to confront the uncomfortable truths in my life.”
From a small town off the East Coast of Canada, at the age of eight, Luke MacDonald picked up a guitar and was hooked. Later, he became immersed in dance and electronic music, which led to him becoming a Gold-certified producer. However, he felt his life and his art were somehow disconnected. Following a period of writer’s block, he set out to rediscover and redefine his passion for music, resulting in a new project – chasing luma.
Releasing his debut single, “bittersweet,” he received vast praise from elite outlets, followed by releasing “motions,” which once again collected applause. Now he’s back with “paradise.”
“paradise” opens on chasing luma’s delicious, slightly rasping tones riding a tasty indie-pop rhythm made up of crunching percussion, a fat, prominent bassline, and splashes of bright synths. Shimmering breakdowns full of sparkling accents lead to the contagious chorus, with chasing luma’s voice taking on vibrant dynamism.
The feel and flow of “paradise,” ebbing and rising on tasty leitmotifs, form a compelling combined effect that latches onto listeners’ ears, and gives rise to involuntary swaying.
Chasing luma has it going on! With “paradise,” he’s hit on the magic formula of an irresistible rhythm and captivating sonic textures.
