Lexie Liu is set to become China’s next female superstar. With her impressive bilingual singing and rapping skills, she is gaining a worldwide following that is making an impact for both Chinese and female representation.
At only 19 years old, Liu stands out amongst other artists because she writes and produces some of her own songs, including her latest single “Sleep Away,” which was “inspired by the unifying and uncompromising power of love.” The single comes from Lexie Liu’s forthcoming project, set to release this winter via 88rising. Before signing to 88rising, Liu captured the attention of audiences when she competed on the popular Korean television show “K-pop Star 5,” as well as China’s “The Rap Of China.” She was a finalist on both programs and was even offered a record deal with one of Korea’s largest entertainment companies. She passed on the deal to be an independent artist in China.
Her status as an independent artist has allowed Liu to freely express herself in her music. By often incorporating provocative lyrics in her music that show awareness of youth culture, Liu is setting herself up to be the next face of Chinese female youth.
Liu is also not only making a name for herself in the music industry but also the fashion industry as well. She was recently featured on the print pages of Asia’s most prominent fashion publications, including Vogue Me, BAZAAR China, Nylon Japan, and Nylon China.
