‘Baby’, which features vocals from Marina and Luis Fonsi, has been released ahead of Clean Bandit’s sophomore album, ‘What Is Love?’ out 30th November 2018
Earlier this summer, Marina promised fans via Twitter that new music would be on the way in the Autumn. Now in the midst of Autumn, Clean Bandit has surprised Marina fans with Reggaeton-inspired single, ‘Baby’. With Reggaeton and Latin Pop music becoming a recent musical trend, what better way to honour the genre than to add one of the genre’s frontmen to the single, Luis Fonzi.
You may recognise Fonzi as he is arguably responsible for one of this decade’s biggest singles worldwide, ‘Despacito’. The single quickly became a staple of Summer 2017 and has gone on to break musical records worldwide. The music video for ‘Despacito’ isn’t doing too bad either being the most watched YouTube video of all time, currently sitting at 5.6 BILLION views.
Speaking of music videos, the music video for ‘Baby’ dropped on the same day of the single’s release. It features, Clean Bandit member Grace Chatto, standing at the alter mere moments before marrying Luis Fonsi with Marina serenading the ceremony to the words of ‘Baby’. The music video also has flashbacks of when the group were at Summer Camp and Grace was with a female lover.
If the line-up of the single along wasn’t impressive enough, the lover in question turns out to be none other than Aussie singer-songwriter, Starley. You may know Starley for her singles, ‘Call On Me’ and ‘Signs’. Fun Fact: Starley supported Clean Bandit on the North American and UK leg of their 2017 tour alongside Zara Larsson.
With Marina’s musical comeback, she also made a return to the silver screen. Alongside Clean Bandit, Marina performed ‘Baby’ on the Friday 2nd November episode of Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two on BBC Two. With promotional performances already in the works, this could be another huge single for Clean Bandit and see Marina rightfully return to the charts.
