Could There Soon be an Influx of New Films Set During the Aztec Era?

The Aztec civilisation is one of the most fascinating periods of history, and there’s a lot of mystery surrounding the era. There are countless documentaries about it such as The Aztecs – A Clash of Worlds. The Aztecs have been prominent in other areas of entertainment as well, with plenty of online casino titles inspired by those times.

There has been a distinct lack of Aztec content in cinema, however, with filmmakers often preferring to focus on other historical periods such as World War II and ancient Egypt. This could be set to change, though, thanks to the Aztecs’ growing popularity in iGaming.

Aztec Themes are Huge in the Online Casino Industry

The online casino industry is a great indicator of what’s hot in popular culture, with developers opting for themes that they know will attract a lot of players. People who play Temple Tumble slot will notice that it uses an Aztec theme, including ancient temples and treasures. It’s one of many titles inspired by the era and highlights how there’s a booming audience out there for Aztec-themed content.

Filmmakers and television companies often turn to the iGaming market to find out what’s hot, and then they use this as inspiration for their content. This is why there’s a strong chance that there will be some new Aztec-based movies in the future, as studios search for original content that they think a lot of people will want to watch.

What Aztec Films Have Been Made to Date?

Despite the abundance of Aztec themes in documentaries and iGaming, the film industry has rarely explored this period of history. One of the most notable offerings is Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto in 2006, which focuses on the decline of the Mayan kingdom before Spanish contact.

The picture doesn’t explicitly detail the Aztec empire, but it is often associated with Aztec times due to its portrayal of a Mesoamerican culture. The picture received generally favourable reviews and was praised for its immersive nature and adrenaline-pumping action scenes.

Other Historical Periods are More Popular on Screen

Historically, filmmakers have shown a preference for certain periods over others. For example, ancient Egypt and World War II have been extensively covered on the big screen over the years. The periods lend themselves well to a range of genres as well, which certainly works in their favour.

For instance, there are war films about WWII such as Saving Private Ryan. There are also romantic offerings in the same period, like The English Patient and The Moon and the Stars. The focus on specific timelines like WWII in cinema may be because their histories are better documented than the Aztec civilisation, so audiences are more likely to know some details about them before watching

As the film industry continues to grow and expand, studios must come up with original content that hasn’t been done before. Due to the popularity of the Aztecs in the booming online casino industry, it would make sense to explore this period in more detail on the big screen.
