Los Angeles-based producer Daniel Allan releases his new single, “Say What You Want,” featuring DEEGAN, a track lifted from his forthcoming crypto-funded EP, Overstimulated.
Talking about the EP, Daniel shares, “‘Overstimulated’ is a project that comments on my personal journey and its overwhelming nature. When life gets hectic, my primary coping mechanism is to lock myself in a room and work it out with music. Sometimes I don’t really know how to communicate, so I suppose this project is my way of sharing that experience with the world.”
After working with major labels, Daniel grasped “how difficult it was to give up so much of [his] master ownership for fairly little in return.” A friend, Cooper Turley clarified the juncture of music and NFTs, sparking a change in Daniel’s process.
The project was crowdfunded using crypto through Mirror – raising 50 $ETH, or approximately $190k in a day from fans. Backers purchased NFTs with exclusive benefits like VIP tickets and received $OVERSTIM tokens to participate in governance. The full campaign can be found here.
On “Say What You Want,” Daniel goes in a slightly different direction than his usual pop flavors, incorporating modern electronic vibes, smooth production, and a captivating topline.
An anthem to self and destiny, the lyrics on the chorus tell the tale.
“I don’t wanna waste my time doing what you say / you can call it off cause I’m on my way.”
“Say What You Want” opens on shimmering synth coloration, followed by a fat bassline and crisp percussion, giving the rhythm throbbing muscle. DEEGAN’s silky flow and dazzling falsetto imbue the lyrics with deliciously cashmere flavors.
Hints of electro-pop and hip-hop-lite imbue the harmonics with layers of creamy, lustrous tones, at once alluring and thrumming with energy.
“Say What You Want” delivers lush velvety sonic hues, a potent rhythm, and the deluxe flow of DEEGAN’s incredible vocals.
