Apple Music have announced their latest Up Next artist, Australian singer and ARIA winner Dean Lewis. In the last two and a half years, Apple Music have supported the likes of Billie Eilish, H.E.R and Jax Jones through their Up Next emerging artist program.
Dean Lewis is the most Shazamed artist in America, showing that his music truly does have the power to go global. Recent track Stay Awake is a catchy little number, getting beneath the skin with Dean’s soothing vocals. It’s a deceiving track with it feeling like a happy vibed track, but lyrically it sings of loss and trying to keep holding on when it’s gone. We love Dean’s delicate vocals and storytelling lyrics which make it easy to invest in his musical delights.
When speaking to Apple Music, the Island Records signing said “It’s such a huge honour to be chosen as the newest Up Next artist! Out of so many artists, I was blown away they decided to choose me. It’s been a long journey – developing as a songwriter in Australia, to touring and meeting fans from all around the world. With my debut album around the corner, I’m very excited to share my story with the support of the entire Apple team.“. Dean’s debut album A Place We Knew has already got fans and critics alike excited for its release on Friday (22nd March).
Apple Music Creative Director and host Zane Lowe explained that Dean Lewis was always set to be an Up Next artist. “It wasn’t about whether he should be an Up Next artist, it was simply a case of when. Dean writes songs from a relatable point of view, a universal language that people live through every day. He can take that sentiment and turn it into something romantic, and he has a lot of confidence in his writing. We’re excited to shine a global spotlight on his music and bring his voice to a wider audience.”
In true Apple style, the Up Next film was shot on an iPhone XS and will be released in full on March 26th but you can get a taster below. Dean Lewis and his family discuss everything from his first guitar, when life changed for him and his debut album. Pre-Add A Place We Knew on Apple Music here.
