Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike Enlists Era Istrefi For New Single & Music Video “Selfish”

We have a brand new single from the biggest DJ duo in the world, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, titled “Selfish”. The song has a feature from the awesomely talented Kosovo Albanian singer Era Istrefi, who you may know from the hit song “BonBon”.

The Belgian DJ brothers, whose real names are Dimitri Thivaios and Michael Thivaios, have been unstoppable in recent years, topping DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs in 2015 and placing second in 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2018, as well as winning several awards. They’ve claimed various chart hits around the world and are set to claim more as the future years go by. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are certainly on top of their game, and we can’t get enough of their music. We also managed to exclusively interview them about their 2018 single “When I Grow Up” and working with Wiz Khalifa on that track.

As for Era Istrefi, she went viral with the release of her song “BonBon” which led to her gaining record contracts with Sony Music and Ultra Music in America. From there, she collaborated on the internationally successful track “Live It Up” by Nicky Jam, alongside Will Smith. She’s got more music on the way, and she’s certainly one to watch.

The song, “Selfish”, has been written by Angemi Antonini, Bas van Dalen, Dan Book, David Paich, Dimitri Thivaios, Jeff Porcaro, Maria Smith, Michael Thivaios, and Victor Thall. Eagle listeners, or people who just recognised some of those names amongst the songwriters, will have realised that the song samples the iconic classic “Africa” from Toto, taking the unforgettable hook and refreshing it whilst adding a tropical twist. As for the music video, it has been directed and produced by YHELLOW.

This is one addicting song, and it’s no surprise as Toto’s “Africa” was addicting, back in the day. This time around, with a whole new refresh, and some brilliantly crafted lyrics, it’ll recapture our love for the beat. “Selfish” is full of tropical vibes, exciting us for Miami Music Week and Ibiza season, and what a time to drop it, a month before MMW. We expect a tonne of remixes to this captivating track while DJs add this track to their sets. If this doesn’t become a smash, it’ll be a treasured summer hit amongst many, for sure.

As for the music video, it’s an explosion of colour, with Era Istrefi looking beyond glamorous in every scene whilst surrounded by colourful plastic cups and gigantic floating gummy bears. Her performance is sexy and passionate as she completely takes on the song and gives it meaning. There’s also a narrative to the visual, where we see the morning after the night of a party, where a couple wakes up and spends the day together – watching the air-swimming whales – really relating to the lyric “I don’t mind you hanging with your friends / It’s just I like it more when the party ends” – don’t we all. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike also turns up, at the morning of the party, and meets Era Istrefi at the balcony. There’s a twist at the end, where the woman wakes up, realising it was all a dream; turning this sweet fantasy romance storyline into a lonely sad nightmare. Well, we all can’t be selfish.

“Selfish” is available to download and stream right now, through Smash The House under exclusive licence to Epic Amsterdam, a division of Sony Music Entertainment Netherlands. We can’t wait to see what this DJ duo releases next, and we certainly need remixes to this track!
