What will your summer look like? What will it sound like? Every year, we can count on the return of fan favourites and big breakout singles for others to take over the radio stations. Although the warmer weather might be a little while away, here are eight songs to know that’ll get you excited for spring and summer 2018!
8. “God’s Plan”, Drake
You’re in a packed room, with people jumping and dancing around you. The bass rattles the floorboards, resonating through your body from your toes to your chest. The music cuts for a moment, and the crowd yells out “I only love my bed and my momma, I’m sorry” before the track continues. Once again, Drake has dropped a hot track that’s already secured a spot on party and club playlists, and will probably stay on repeat throughout the summer. As he does.
7. “Where Do You Go”, flor
This one’s for those of you seeking mellow jams, waiting to spend those late summer nights at your favourite band’s shows. It’s one you’ll drive down the street with the windows down to, with all the wind in your hair, but you feel like you’re in a cliche teenage romcom, living your best life. Flor is giving us all the classic warm weather feels, with a fresh, catchy beat that’ll get you vibing from beginning to end.
6. “Cool”, Felix Jaehn ft. Marc E. Bassy, Gucci Mane
Wherever your happy place is, this track will take you there. This is a reminder to stay true to you with a fun track that’ll definitely get you moving. Horns hop into the instrumental at the chorus, like an extra treat you didn’t know you needed until you had it. Felix Jaehn is definitely someone to keep on your radar this year!
5. “Mad Love”, Sean Paul ft. David Guetta, Becky G
A cool beat opens up the song. Becky G’s voice follows, with Sean Paul chiming in at the 15 second mark. In that moment, we realized how much we missed Becky G’s voice, that Sean Paul had finally returned to deliver this year’s summertime tunes, and honestly, the two on a track with David Guetta is a hitmaking trio. “Mad Love” is definitely going to get…well, mad love on the radio stations and summer playlists.
4. “i need u here (cortado)”, anton. ft. Folly Rae
Hi, have you met your new favourite artists? Anton and Folly Rae bring you a lighthearted track that’ll definitely get you thinking of the sunshine. Steel drums throughout the song bring that chill, poppy feeling, getting us excited for the beginning of warmer weather. Plus, check out the adorable music video that’ll totally melt your heart. Anton and Folly Rae are definitely two more artists to keep your eyes on!
3. “Until the Night”, Lights
This track was released last fall as part of LIGHTS’ album Skin&Earth, but we can’t help but get some poppy spring/summer vibes from it! She stays true to the soft electronic sound that we know and love, but kicks it up a notch with a dancy beat that’ll get you on your feet.
2. “Growing Pains”, COIN
This song from COIN is so infectious in all the best ways. It’s fun, punchy, and will definitely get a smile on your face. It’s the type that brings you back to days spent at the beach and late-night exploring with your friends, the type of song that’ll make you feel young, wild and free no matter what.
1. “The Middle” Zedd ft. Maren Morris
Last year, Calvin Harris had not only the songs of the summer, but the album of the summer with hit after hit on Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, most notably “Slide” featuring Migos and Frank Ocean. But could this be Zedd’s year to take the throne of the song of the summer with “The Middle”, featuring Maren Morris and Grey? It just might be. Reminiscent of last year’s “Stay” featuring Alessia Cara, “The Middle” is energetic, exciting, and will find its place on both party and workout playlists.
