The end of a relationship is never easy, but Jenny Kern has taken those emotions and created an awesome track, titled “Move On”, full of positivity and encouragement. The track is a self-belief song empowering the listener into realising that you’re better off now than you ever were before, showcasing that you can heal from such a thing and be stronger because of it. This acts as the follow-up to last year’s sophomore EP, titled “Your Heart Knows“.
Jenny Kern is a Canadian-born Brooklyn-based indie singer-songwriter who originally started out as a Page for NBC, before going on to work for acclaimed filmmakers Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig and eventually becoming a producer in the film and television industry. She decided on a career change in 2018, pursuing her passion for music. She dropped her debut single “Slow Burn” the following year, gaining critical acclaim and racking up nearly half a million Spotify streams. Her most-streamed track, to date, is “Now We Know”, which has almost reached 1.2 million Spotify streams and was used in season 10 of the MTV reality show Teen Moms 2, with many of her other songs also being used in the CW’s Charmed reboot and ABC’s The Rookie. Jenny Kern is proving to be a global rising star, and this EP continues to showcase her in the best light. We can’t wait to watch her music career blossom.
Co-written and co-produced by Jennifer Kern and Rich Tuorto, “Move On” is an incredibly emotional indie-pop song that effortlessly showcases Jenny Kern’s artistry as she delves deep inside of herself for this epic track. A steady backing beat starts the track off, creating a rhythm that compliments Jenny Kern’s voice as her lyrics detail the heartbreak she’s going through as she grapples with her feelings that are complex and raw after the end of a relationship. When the chorus hits, she starts to gain strength and self-belief, a momentum she continues, empowering not just her listeners but herself, as well. The backing track also follows suit, adding twisty synths, powerful drums, and a more upbeat atmospheric vibe, just as Jenny Kern brings strength and vigour to the track – we all are better off without those toxic exes of ours.
Talking about the track, Jenny Kern said: “This song is about moving on after the end of a relationship. It’s an anthem, a sort of charging forward and getting to understand what you want. At first, you don’t know how to navigate the emotions that are hitting you in the moment so the lyrics toy with that vulnerability. But ultimately it’s an empowering way to realize you can heal yourself.”
