Nashville, Tennessee is home to a number of musical talents, but one of the most exciting artists to come from the Country Music Capital of the World is indie folk singer-songwriter Katie Buxton.
Originally from Philidelphia, Pennsylvania, Katie first discovered her talents at just twelve years old, when she picked up the guitar and wrote her first song. Since then, she has had experience with bands and songwriting in multiple genres.
In 2012, Katie’s songwriting abilities were recognised when she was chosen as a finalist in the ‘Sing for the Trees’ songwriting contestant, for her song ‘The World Moves By’. During summer 2013, she attended the Berklee Five Week Performance Program where she once again was a finalist, this time in the Songwriting Showcase. Katie also received mentor ship from Melissa Ferrick and Sally Taylor, daughter of James Taylor.

Katie continued to develop her songwriting after making the move to Nashville. She attended Belmont University as a songwriting major and was then invited to join Bear House Writers Management, where she was one of only eight to play in the ASCAP Writers Showcase in fall 2015. Further adding to her incredible achievements, she was later chosen as a finalist in the 2016 American Songwriting Awards with her song ‘Painted Hearts’.
At the beginning of this year, Katie took her songwriting one step further, by releasing her debut EP From Songbirds. Featuring four songs: ‘Light From Love’, ‘Happens Like This’, ‘Painted Hearts’, and ‘Journey Home’, Katie aims to awaken her listeners to their own truths that light them up from the inside. In her own words, she wants her music to “enable them to think differently and to see themselves in the world and people around them. To help them find the love that exists in every little thing.”
Building from her EP, Katie has since unveiled a brand new heartfelt single called ‘You Flew’. With its thoughtful lyrics and beautiful melody, Katie has delivered an emotionally haunting track that everyone can relate to. In her words, “the song is about caring deeply for someone who is not ready to love or be loved and runs out of fear, and focuses especially on the process of learning to let go.” ‘You Flew’ was recorded and mixed by Sal Oliveri and mastered by Luke Gilfeather.
It is evident that Katie Buxton is a voice to listen out for. Her truthful, meaningful music has already impacted on many, and we’re certain that she will continue to capture people’s attention over the next few months.
‘You Flew’ is available to download now. Keep up to date with Katie on her Facebook.
