Here at CelebMix, we absolutely love unearthing new and emerging musical talent. If you’re a fan of music with soul, then you’re going to fall head over heels in love with Sonny.
Sonny is a 17-year-old soul singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, who is breaking his way onto the music scene with his debut offering ‘Princess’. Produced by Rum and Bug production team, ‘Princess’ is a ballad which oozes soul, combining throwback and retro influences to create a modern sound which is so pleasing to the ear.
Like many songwriters, when writing ‘Princess’, Sonny took inspiration from real-life experiences, and added a touch of humour to proceedings. Speaking about the track, he said: “My first release ‘Princess’ is a very personal song about a challenging relationship. It’s a little tongue in check but I’ve tried to be as honest as possible and I hope that shows throughout the lyrics in this song.”
Hailing from South Shields, Sonny began gigging around Newcastle at the age of 14. From a young age, he was heavily influenced by his parents’ love of music, whether it be RnB, soul, folk or country. Over the past few years, Sonny has been able to hone his craft, and is already developing into a charming performer.
Sonny has signed with Never Fade Records, an independent label which launched the careers of Gabrielle Aplin and Saint Raymond. He will be releasing his debut EP, Hopeless Romance, through the label on March 24. Of the EP, he said: “I’m really excited to release my debut EP. Getting my music out there feels like a long time coming as I’ve been writing and gigging for so many years!”
If you fancy hearing Sonny live, you can catch him at his headline show at The Cluny, Newcastle on March 24. He will also be performing at Live At Leeds Festival on April 29, and Dot to Dot Festival on May 26/27/28.
