Welcome to the one billion club, Dua Lipa! Her music video for ‘New Rules’ has just passed one billion views on YouTube, and in the process, Dua has become the youngest solo female artist to reach this milestone.
Speaking about her latest incredible achievement, Dua said: “This is surreal! I never expected that New Rules would get the reaction it did. Videos are so important to me and I’m so grateful that fans discovered this one and loved it so much. It’s been life changing.”
Lyor Cohen, YouTube’s global head of music added: “This is an incredibly beautiful moment for Dua and we couldn’t be happier to welcome her to YouTube’s Billion Views Club. It’s been amazing to watch her journey from sharing covers on YouTube to now being covered by fans across the globe.”
The ‘New Rules’ music video was released on July 7, 2017 and is the 100th video to reach a billion views. Fans and YouTube users alike were quick to fall in love with the video thanks to the synchronised choreography and girl power message. It’s safe to say that the music video and the track itself played a huge part in catapulting Dua to gargantuan new heights. Among Dua’s many achievements, the song became her first number one single in the UK.
