Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’ has been a fan favourite ever since his album ÷ (Divide) was released back in March. The track originally charted at number four in the UK just as an album track, however, in September, Ed confirmed that ‘Perfect’ would be given official single status.
Since then, Ed has released a stunning music video for ‘Perfect’ and the track has risen up the charts once more. But how does arguably the biggest male artist in the world right now further boost an already hugely successful song? He teams up with one of the biggest female artists in the world, that’s what!
Last week, Ed revealed that he would be releasing a special remix of ‘Perfect’ today, featuring a superstar collaborator. Teasing the duet, he called it “a really f***ing big deal”, and he wasn’t lying! Yesterday it was announced that the surprise collaborator is none other than Queen Bey herself, Beyoncé.
The collaboration dropped at midnight GMT, and it’s safe to say we’re even more in love with ‘Perfect’ than we already were. Accompanied by an acoustic guitar, Ed takes control of the first verse and chorus, before Beyoncé takes over. The two join forces for the last minute or so of the song, with their voices complementing each other beautifully. It may be an unexpected collaboration for some, but it certainly is pretty perfect.

Speaking to Ellen about how the duet came about, Ed said: “It’s one of those things. The song came out so long ago in the scheme of music. Music kind of goes so fast. And I was like, I want to do it as a single. And then I thought of a way of re-launching it. I was like, I love Beyoncé, should I ask Beyoncé? In my head, I was like, she’s going to say no, and then I was like, well you might as well ask, and she said yes.”

‘Perfect’ has already hit a new chart peak in the UK, reaching number three earlier today. With only a few weeks to go until Christmas and this new remix under his belt, Ed will certainly have his sights set on the coveted Christmas number one spot.
