TikTok star Emma Oliver hooks up with production duo loyalties on her debut single, “Sad Sometimes,” a song about the normal human emotion of sadness triggered by circumstances or experiences. Sadness is okay because after a while, people adjust and “get over” their hurt or loss, and the feeling fades.

Emma explains it best, saying, “I just want to be sad sometimes… is that too much to ask for? For the most part I think people feel like sadness is a weakness. They aren’t okay with sitting in their sad emotions and memories and instead fake happiness. I just want people to know it’s okay to be sad, to cry, to scream, to feel hurt. That’s what this song is about.”

With more than 400,000 admirers on TikTok, Emma’s videos brought her to the world’s attention. Then one day she sang a song and her admirers went wild. Emma definitely has oodles of talent.

Hooking up with pop producers loyalties, aka Dan Stringer and Michael Kanne, celebrated for their compelling music rife with potent rhythms and fat, throbbing basslines, the sonic chemistry between the trio is immediately palpable, resulting in a strikingly affecting song.

Talking about the significance of the song, the duo shares, “As humans, we can often limit the number of risks we take, new things we try, and people we trust, because we are afraid of being hurt. The problem is at that same time we limit what we feel. Happiness and sadness can’t exist without each other. It’s okay to be sad! Embrace your sadness: we want this song to bring that out. When you work through sadness instead of trying to muffle it, you have a much easier time moving on.”

“Sad Sometimes” opens on a low-slung piano riding a distant yet powerful rhythm topped by wistful wisps of melancholic textures. Emma’s expressive voice evokes poignant surfaces gliding on deliciously throaty tones.

“You don’t want to see me hurt, but you already did your damage / When will you ever learn, no I don’t think that I can manage.”

With “Sad Sometimes,” Emma Oliver and loyalties deliver a beautiful song about one of the many sensitive facets of being human. Emma Olive has it going on!
