The 1975 album, I like it when you sleep for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it, makes its official debut this Friday, February 26th. The new album is said to have a laid-back, intimate vibe combined with intricate electronic beats. Similar to their last album, titled The 1975, the sophomore album cover features a light pink illuminated, rectangular sign with the band’s name in the center.
Since the announcement of the new album on October 8 2015, the Manchester based band has released four new tracks in order to give their fans a taste of what is to come. “Love Me” was the first track to hit iTunes in October and in December, “UGH!” was second to make its debut. The band then introduced “The Sound” in January and with much surprise, they released the song, “Somebody Else”, last week.
The 1975 has taken advantage of social media and promotion opportunities as well. After facing breakup rumors and deleting their twitter accounts in mid-2015, the band returned to Twitter and have been keeping their fans updated with pictures, merchandise, new music, and upcoming concert dates. If that was not enough, the band has released official music videos for “Love Me” and “UGH!” and have made multiple appearances in the Beats 1 studios for interviews as well as performing in the Beats 1 Live Lounge. During their most recent appearance on Saturday Night Live, they gave energetic and enticing performances of “The Sound” and “Love Me”. As far as upcoming news, the band is hosting a “Live in LA” event on Friday to celebrate the release of their new album.
This new album could be just what the band needs to launch their career to new heights. During an interview with NME, lead singer Matt Healy comments, “I am challenging people to sit through an hour and 15 minutes and 17 songs that all sound completely different from each other. It is quite an emotional investment. It is art. It is what I want to do. The world needs this album.” It is extremely evident that this British band is going to make history with this new album. Their newfound confidence and laid-back persona is enough to convince anyone to buy their music. In an interview with Billboard, Matt Healy stated, “This is the beginning of a new chapter for The 1975… Our record signifies the start of a new world for us, a more colorful world verses a less colorful world.” The 1975 have set out to change the world through music and they have yet to disappoint.
