Luckily for us, Amba Shepherd was able to answer our questions regarding the release of her single, about her label, about her previous musical releases and about what’s next. Check out our interview below.
Hi Amba, how are you today? What have you been up to lately?
Hi! Apart from releasing my new single “Wide Awake & Dreaming” on Friday, which has been a major whirlwind of activity & excitement; I just flew into LA from Sydney for two weeks of studio.
How excited were you to release “Wide Awake & Dreaming”?
So excited! It’s always so amazing when a record finally comes out. I really love this song, this new sound I’ve been working on is completely different to any of my feature collabs and it’s super freeing creatively to have this project to channel my artistry into now.
What has the reaction to your new single been like?
The reaction has blown me away; I’m always so humbled by the incredible support I get! Sirius XM Electro, Martin Garrix, Nicky Romero, Yves V, Quintino all picked it up over the weekend which is epic!
A music video for the song will be released today, can you tell us more about it? What will it be like?
The video is an animation by the incredibly talented visual artist Brandon Bolmer; it’s the story of a pianist realising his ambition of becoming the musician he always dreamed he would be; self- actualization if you will. I wanted to do something totally different my aesthetic is atypical for electronic music.
The song was released on your own label Superrlativ, how did you go about creating your own label? And why?
Yeah, it’s been a massive 12 months setting everything up with the label and a huge challenge. I had a very clear vision in terms of how I wanted to release my records and I just decided to go for it. I have rather a lot of new material tucked up my sleeve.
You’ve worked with many big artists, which was your favourite to work with, and why?
Which was my favourite?! Argh, hard question! All the guys are totally different & in different ways, I love them all. Personal fave was working with Mikkas in 2013 we released a track called “Finally” which was totally groundbreaking; he and I are very similar souls and making that song was an in-depth process & all about the art for both of us.
Is there anyone you want to work with in the future?
I would love to work with Eric Prydz, John Legend, Deadmau5, The Weekend, Ellie Goulding, Armin Van Buuren, Zedd, Flume, Rufus, Diplo, Galantis, Sia, and so many more this list is never ending!
What are your plans for the rest of 2017?
After this studio trip, I’ll be back in Sydney. My next single will drop April; then I’ll be over in London, Amsterdam, and Ibiza May-June. I can’t wait to get back there! 2017 is all about my solo singles, finalizing details for my new solo show, and I also have a couple of very special collabs lined up. I am so excited for these too.
Thank you, Amba, for taking some time out to chat with CelebMix. Looks like you have quite the year ahead of you, and we cannot wait to watch it all happen. We’re just as excited as you are.
Don’t forget, “Wide Awake & Dreaming” is available to download and stream now. The music video will be dropping anytime today.
