Andreya Triana is a British singer-songwriter who you may know as the talented singer behind the hit track ‘That’s Alright With Me.’ Triana recently released her latest single ‘Woman’ and is working on bringing even more new music to the table in 2019.
In an exclusive interview with CelebMix, Triana opened up about musical influences, empowerment and dream collaborations.
How did you first get involved with music?
Music spoke to me from a really young age. School plays, choir, orchestra… I did the lot!
Who are your musical influences and the artists you listened to growing up?
My first musical influences would be my family. My mum and grandparents have gorgeous voices and always sung around the house. My earliest musical influence was Michael Jackson… what a legend!
Your latest single is ‘WOMAN.’ What can you tell us about the process of making that song and the inspiration behind it?
I rewrote this song about 100 times with an amazing songwriter called Dee Adam. When we hit on the idea for ‘WOMAN,’ and I started to talk about my turbulent teenage years, something just clicked into place. When we finished it, I cried.

Rewinding a bit, ‘That’s Alright With Me’ was a hit. How was it to see that song become so successful and popular?
It’s always the best feeling when something you write connects with people. Loads of people have said they’ve had that song as the first dance at their wedding. That’s pretty amazing!
How do your think your music has evolved from then to now?
I’ve had huge life changes since the last album. I’ve changed [my] record label, I bought a flat and moved to the seaside, and that definitely gave me a stronger grounding. I think this album is a lot more rooted, and I felt a lot clearer about the message I’m trying to share with the world.
What type of themes or messages do you want to portray through your songs?
This album is all about that magical world… EMPOWERMENT! Discovering self-empowerment and self-love has been life-changing for me as I spent a very long time not feeling good about myself. Now, I just want to encourage as many people as possible to feel good about who they are; to be their best selves. My live show will be full of colour and a celebration of this, too.
There is a beautiful version of ‘WOMAN’ out that’s acoustic. Do you enjoy doing more stripped down versions of your songs?
Thank you! I love doing more stripped back versions. It’s also a good test of the song – if it can stand up on its own with nothing more than a guitar, then we’re onto something.

What can you tell us about the upcoming album?
You need to put your dancing shoes on and turn it up LOUD!!
Are there any bands or artists you dream about collaborating with?
There are loads! My top three would be Labrinth, Mura Masa and Disclosure. I actually got to collaborate with one of them recently!
What are your goals for 2019?
World domination!! Mwahhahaaa! Hone some kick a** DJ skills and learn to bake a cake without burning it.

As well as the album and show, what else can fans of yours look forward to in the future?
I’m getting ideas together to create a really exciting online merchandise store which offers more than the usual T-shirt and tote bag. I’ll also be making my DJ debut in 2019 so watch this space!
‘Life in Colour’ is out 22nd February 2019. Andreya’s headline show at EartH, London is on 21st March 2019.
Thank you, Andreya Triana, for the interview. We can’t wait to hear new music and look forward to what 2019 will bring you!
