Astrojaxx, a successful producer, DJ and instrumentalist, is quickly catching the eye of fans of several genres including latin and pop music. As an upcoming artist with only two songs available to be streamed by the general public, Astrojaxx is well on his way to mass success and has already experienced an immense amount of positive feedback. His single ‘Universe,’ for example, has been streamed over 400,000 times and its music video now has well over a million views.
In an exclusive interview with CelebMix, Astrojaxx opened up about his success thus far, new music and more.
How did you first get started with music?
I started dabbling in music when I was very young. My father is a guitarist, so I’ve been surrounded by music quite literally since I was born. When I was about three years old, I played a self-taught rendition of ‘Ode To Joy’ on the piano by ear. That’s when my parents realized that I had an innate gift in music. I went on to pursue classical training and even though I no longer play classical music, I know that it is an invaluable asset and essential in helping me develop into the artist I am today.
What artists, producers or bands have inspired you growing up or inspire you currently?
It sounds cliche, but far too many to count! I think that seeing young artists such as Martin Garrix and Mura Masa become successful played a huge role in where I drew my inspiration from. I’d say my biggest inspiration at the moment is Illenium. He’s extremely talented and I think his sound design is incredible! He’s definitely inspired me to consider incorporating playing live instruments into my sets.
What can you tell us about your track ‘Universe’ with Mechi Pieretti and the response it received?
I’m thrilled with the success of ‘Universe.’ The making of the track was a global effort as the team involved in the production and audiovisuals originated from ten different countries! I think this really helped in generating global interest and traction. I was stoked when ‘Universe’ charted at #9 on JOOX South Africa’s ‘What’s New’ playlist upon release alongside Sam Smith, Beyonce and NAS. That was a pretty surreal feeling. The acoustic version was even featured on Spotify’s “New Music Friday Latin.” It’s crazy knowing that my music is being played and appreciated around the world!
What was it like to make that music video? It currently has over a million views!
I had a lot of fun making the ‘Universe’ music video! Our team included some really talented artists like ULTRA Angel Yasmin Colman and standout shuffler in Tiesto’s ‘Grapevine’ music video, Vanesa Seco. Louri Rodriguez, the senior Creative Director at Sony Latin, directed the music video. I think the talent really helped draw viewers in. It was a great team and I hope to work on future projects with them!
Speaking of all of your success, how does it feel to have accomplishments like that and others of yours at such a young age?
I don’t really think about my age – except when I have homework to catch up on and I’d rather be in the studio! I think it’s a huge advantage to be so young. I have my whole life ahead of me and even though I’ve already spent years studying my craft, there’s still so much to learn. I would not have been able to accomplish what I’ve done so far without a lot of hard work and the help of my mentors. I’m very grateful for their support!
If you could tour with any artist, DJ or producer next year, who would it be and why?
That’s a tough one [because] there are so many artists that I admire. I think that the opportunity to tour with Illenium would be amazing. His shows are spectacular and his fans are extremely loyal to him. Illenium inspires me to grow a loyal fan base similar to the one he has created.
What do you want new fans of yours to know about you and your music?
I would like my new fans to know how grateful I am for their support! I’m in the studio a lot because I want to give my audience my best. I enjoy traveling and learning about different countries. I also enjoy working with different genres and studying instruments from different countries I’ve visited, although I did have a little difficulty with the 20 string charango I found in Peru! Some interesting things about me are I like to play chess and have finally managed to beat my dad who is a pretty good player. I’m a huge animal lover and [I] think the best thing you can do is rescue. My family adopted a mini pinscher named Kayla and we are best friends! I [also] always try to have a good time no matter what I’m doing!
What can fans look forward to in the near or distant future?
I have a couple of tracks which I finished recently that I’m getting ready to release in the next few months. I’m working now on an exciting project in South Africa which I’m hoping to have wrapped up soon! I’ve also started working with an extremely talented producer here in Los Angeles and am collaborating with some amazing artists! There is going to be some fantastic new music coming in 2020. It’s a very exciting time for me! Shoutout to my fans for supporting me during this crazy and fun ride! I will have a lot more music to share very soon.
