EXCLUSIVE: Interview With Country Trio The Logans

The Logans are a super fast rising country music trio from Glasgow who consist of sisters Honor, Leona-Blue, and Tayler-Mae. The group are one of a number of British country acts to have emerged over the past several years thanks to record breaking duos Ward Thomas, and The Shires opening doors for the UK country scene.

Here we speak exclusively to The Logans about the Brit country music scene, dream collaborations, new music, and much, much more;

Growing up who inspired your love of country music?

Our love for country music was inspired by our first love- our mum! Kate had us obsessed with country from such a young age that I’m not sure we can remember anything else! Reba McEntire, Johnny Cash, Shania Twain and Dolly Parton were the soundtracks to our childhood. We loved country music so much that our mum took us to line dancing classes at the local church hall. Tayler-Mae and I would hide 5 minutes before it was time to leave because we didn’t want it to end and in true Leona-Blue fashion, she refused to take part in a single dance in fear of scuffing her new cowgirl boots.

How excited are you about the growth of UK country?

We are so excited! we’ve always loved country music but it’s because of the current UK growth that musicians like us have a real opportunity to write and perform our music on our doorstep. We dream of Nashville but having support at home make’s the journey even better. We’ve never been afraid to take a risk, especially musically, and it looks like the risk of going country is paying off with this huge movement in the UK country scene.

You are part of that movement of Brit country acts, how excited are you to be helping the genre grow?

We’ve been so fortunate that the country scene in the UK has been unbelievably supportive. That kind of support and encouragement for one another- which you don’t always find that easily in this industry- is something that we believe to be a big reason for the county movement taking place.

Which acts are listening to at the moment?

The three of us are listening to quite different artists at the moment. Honor loves Maren Morris because she’s got that soul-pop down, Leona-Blue loves Miranda Lambert for the honesty of her song-writing and I’m [Tayler-Mae] obsessed Angaleena Presley for her wit and humour. While they’re quite different stylistically, we all agree that we’re all in awe of country’s strong community of female musicians- one that we’re keen to join!

If you could collaborate with anyone who would you choose?

We would love to co;lab with Emmylou Harris and Kelsea Ballerini. We think it’s so cool that we have such a broad spectrum of fans from young kids to older veterans of country music and what a delight it would be to colab with Kelsea and Emmylou (both amazing talents) and bring our fans together- country is all about family!

Do you feel being sisters helps make The Logans a stronger band?

Hell yeah! There’s an honesty, love and support in family that creates the foundation you need to take on the world- or the country world to be precise. We have shared experiences as well as individual ones that let us write together in a way that’s free of inhibitions, creative and exciting!

Can fans expect to see you on tour soon?

Between now and Christmas our focus is on studio time and creating some music that our fans can get truly excited about. Hopefully some releases will be coming your way in the new year and maybe even a tour- if Leona-Blue doesn’t mind scuffing up those country boots.

When can we expect a debut single from you?

Again, the single will probably come after Christmas, just think of it as a way to get through the January slump- Santa’s coming twice!

Do you have any plans to release an album next year?

We’re in the middle of writing our debut album now and it’s really something to see how full of personality our songs are becoming, they pretty much have a life of their own! We’re also working with some seriously talented writers and producers- no naming names now, you’ll all just have to wait to find out!

How do you feel your music fits into the current Brit country scene?

We love it. It all seems fateful that as we became sure of our path as a country band the UK became hot on county music.

What do you hope to achieve over the course of your careers?

Well Leona-Blue wants to be the first weightlifting country superstar, is that a thing? Probably not but we’d rather keep Leona-Blue happy than tell her the truth and face the wrath of Barbie Schwarzenegger! On a serious note, we know how fortunate we are to have people around us that make what we do such a joy and full of meaning. This is something that we want to be able to give back through our music if we can create something that allows us to connect with our fans and extend the love support that we have been shown. If we can do that and give fans the basic confidence that we hope that will help them to believe in themselves and take risks too.
