With the rise of the internet offering platforms to connect with others worldwide, more artists are able to reach their audiences on a different level on social media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram. However, many artists are advocates for causes and movements they support both online and offline. Isabelle is one of those artists, inspiring audiences through song, social media, and in her everyday life as an advocate for body positivity. Her strong vocals deliver powerful lyrics packed with emotion, giving others the strength to keep moving forward. She recently released her new single, “Unlabeled” alongside an incredible, eye-opening music video.
We chatted with Isabelle about some of her own inspirations and new music!
Growing up surrounded by music lovers, what sounds or experiences inspired you as a developing artist?
I loved power pop music growing up. The big voices like Celine and Mariah or Whitney. Their voices with the incredible songs they sung is what drove me.
How would you personally describe your musical sound?
My sound is strong and bold but intimate at the same time.
What inspires you the most musically?
Inspirational songs are what really get me. Songs with soul and power behind them are the best, there is nothing like them.
What would you say is the most challenging part of turning your experiences into songs?
The most challenging part is making sure that I am telling the story in its truest form. Sometimes with songwriting, it can take wrong turns and end up being something that doesn’t make sense or translate. However, sometimes that’s the beauty of a song.
Is there an artist who inspires your musical style?
Sia, Emeli Sande, Celine Dion, Labrinth, and Carrie Underwood.
You write from the heart and sing from the soul, reaching audiences through your voice and sharing stories through song. What does your songwriting process look like?
At first, it’s a venting session. I have to talk about something I am going through or something I am trying to deal with day to day. Then slowly it becomes a song or an idea. I try to only go off inspiration. If something isn’t working I walk away for a bit.
Who or what motivates you to succeed?
People have told me all my life I wouldn’t be able to be successful in music, and that has been my driving source all my life. When someone tells me I can’t, I’ll find a way. I strive to be a fighter.
Your new single, “Unlabeled” is out soon! What can we expect from the track?
This song is my story in a nutshell. It’s a powerful upbeat anthem that hopefully is inspiring to whoever is listening!
You are an incredible advocate for body positivity and self-love both online and offline. What advice do you have for those currently struggling with self-acceptance?
We all have our days where we aren’t feeling our best, but if you are already feeling that way don’t keep beating yourself up. Find something you love about yourself and focus on that. Only surround yourself with people who uplift you. This year I made a rule for myself that anyone who doesn’t want the best for me, doesn’t belong in my life or doesn’t deserve to know about my life.
What impact do you hope your music has on your audience?
I hope young girls or kids see me and say wow, I am not gonna hate on myself today, I’m gonna choose to love myself. I hope people gain confidence through my music. There is always room for more positivity.
Is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?
I am just grateful that you take the time to listen and support me. I hope that I have helped you in some way!
