Yesterday we told you all about Una Healy’s upcoming ‘The Voice Inside Of Me’ tour, today we’re bringing you our exclusive interview with her.
Hi Una, you’re heading off on tour on Friday, what can fans expect from your set?
I am so excited to be heading off on tour. They are all very intimate acoustic venues so people can expect to get up close and personal! I will put on the best show possible for everyone and will be taking Mitch (On keys) and Joe (bass) and my acoustic guitar along. I have a fantastic support act called Jacob Lee also performing. I will perform songs from my debut album ‘The Waiting Game’ as well as some covers and new songs that I have written. I might even do a Saturdays song or two!!
Can you tell us more about your latest single Never See Me Cry?
It is a very catchy uptempo track but I often perform it acoustically and this really conveys the vulnerability of the lyrics. It is empowering because that person who once dominated and put you down is out of the picture so they will no longer gain any more tears of sadness.
We love the theme of empowerment within the track, has there been any certain experiences which helped shape this track or you as a person?
I have met quite a few people in my life since I was a child that have been very mean to me and unkind…but I won’t mention any names they know who they are! They are in the past now and that’s all that matters.
You’ve been on plenty of headline tours within The Saturdays but how are you feeling about heading out on your first solo tour?
I really am just so excited to be back out on stage doing what I love most and that is performing music in front of an audience. I love to connect with an audience and take them along on a music journey. I have had solo headlines shows but this is my tour collective tour or The UK and Ireland.
You released your debut solo album The Waiting Game last year, Never See Me Cry is the first single taken from the follow-up. But when can fans expect to hear more about your new album?
I have so many new songs written that I just can’t wait to release. I have a new track out at the minute called ‘Take Me Dancing’ with Jake Carter. It is more a pop/dance track with a country twist.
If you could duet with any artist, country genre or not. Who would it be and why?
I have had the great privilege of duetting with some great artists such as Sam Palladio, Brett Young and now young and upcoming pop-country artist Jake Carter. I think maybe a duet with another female artist would be amazing! My favourite female artist at the minute is Jess Glynne so that would be so cool!
Out of all your solo material which lyric is your favourite that you’ve written?
It is hard to pick a favourite but the lyrics of my song ‘The Waiting Game’ are very positive and uplifting. I have had one of my fans had some of them tattooed and it just so amazing to feel my lyrics are inspirational to others.
What’s next on the cards for 2018?
First and foremost this tour! and then more songs with an EP out later this year. I also have my very own shoe collection ‘Una Healy Original’ shoes that I am very passionate about so next seasons shoes will hit the shelves in the autumn. There are lots of other exciting things on the horizon so watch this space x
