Mahogany LOX is a force to be reckoned with. Not only is the social media queen a talented singer and songwriter, but she’s an actress, model, YouTuber and DJ who turns heads wherever she goes.
The multi-talented star has been incredibly busy over the past few months with the release of her latest single ‘No Deal’, complete with its feisty music video. Mahogany is also a TV regular and can be seen as Briefcase Model #13 on Howie Mandel’s Deal or No Deal.
We recently caught up with Mahogany to discuss her music, her role as Briefcase Model #13 on Deal or No Deal, and much more.
It’s been a year since we last spoke to you, following the release of your ‘It Is What It Is’ lyric video – how have you been since then?
Wow! A whole year! I’ve been great! I became a briefcase model for Deal or No Deal, released my new single ‘No Deal’ and wrote a bunch of new songs too!
You released your latest single ‘No Deal’ at the end of last year. What’s the reaction to it been like?
The reaction to ‘No Deal’ has been amazing! It’s doing really well on YouTube and Spotify. A lot of people have been making videos to it and that’s been so nice to see!
Can you tell us a little about the song and the inspiration behind it?
‘No Deal’ is about someone being in a toxic relationship that needed to end and them finally getting the courage to end it and not taking the toxic person back no matter how much they try to convince you. It’s a song for those who need an extra push to get out of a bad relationship!
The video for ‘No Deal’ is so sassy! What was it like to film?
Filming ‘No Deal’ was a lot of fun. My friends TalkBoyTV filmed it, who I’ve known for years! So, it was super natural and fun to film. I also got to cast some of my closet friends and my boyfriend was in it too! As a side note… *’No Deal’ wasn’t inspired by our relationship… we good!!!*
How would you say your sound has developed since you first started releasing music?
My music has definitely grown up with me and has become sassier, which I love! I can’t wait to share more of it!
What can we expect from your forthcoming music? We’re dying to hear more from you!
I love music so much, I’m always writing and in the studio. I have several songs that I’m really excited about and can’t wait for you to hear them! I’m planning on releasing my next single in March. And yes… it’s gonna be sassy!
You’re briefcase model 13 on Deal or No Deal. How did you first get involved with the show?
I got involved with Deal or No Deal was when my agent from ASAP Talent Agency asked me if I was interested in auditioning for Deal or No Deal. I said “ahhh yea!!!” The audition was set up and I was lucky enough to become briefcase model #13.
What’s it like to work with Howie Mandel and the other briefcase models?
Working with Howie has been amazing. He’s so funny, witty, kind, humble, and truly caring! It’s been an honor seeing him work his magic on stage. He’s a master and I learned a lot from watching him do his thing! All of the other 25 briefcase models were amazing too and I’ve made some forever friends!
You’ve become known for your ‘fake outs’ which we love! How does it feel to have the contestants’ fate in your hands when they choose your briefcase?
It is such a stressful moment knowing you could change someone’s life by just opening your briefcase! We don’t know the number in our briefcase so when you have a low number it’s super exciting but when you have a high number, sadness takes over your entire body. You feel terrible. It’s truly a rollercoaster ride of emotions!
What’s been your favorite Deal or No Deal moment so far?
Being around Howie, the girls and the energy of the audience is something I’ll never forget. But my favorite moment was opening my case with a low number knowing that I helped the contestant towards changing their lives. It made me so happy to see them happy.
You’re also a TikTok user and we love your videos on there! We’re pretty awful at using the app – what tips would you give us on how to make the perfect TikTok video?
Hmm, for Tik Tok you have to practice your style. My tip would be to practice, practice, practice. Practice makes perfect! And the most important thing is to be yourself and have fun!
2018 was another great year for you – what was your personal highlight?
Being a part of the Deal or No Deal crew and releasing my ‘No Deal’ single were great personal highlights for me!
What are your hopes for 2019?
In 2019, I hope to release more music, do a lot of DJing, go on a few tours, and get a 6 pack lol.
Do you have anything in the pipeline that you can tell us about?
Stay tuned… other than releasing new music I do have a lot of other things going on. Let’s just say… you’ll be seeing me in stores very soon.
