EXCLUSIVE VIDEO PREMIERE: Rebecca Raw – ‘Whisper Thin’

Last month we introduced you to British singer-songwriter Rebecca Raw, who recently released her debut EP Deep Within. The five-track EP really hit a nerve with us, thanks to Rebecca’s painfully honest lyrics, gorgeous vocals and remarkable musicality.

One of our favourite tracks from the EP is the haunting ‘Whisper Thin’. Speaking about the song, Rebecca said: “‘Whisper Thin’ is an admission that life can be hard and it offers permission to be weak but it is also accepts a bigger picture and is full of hope – always hope – for the new thing.”

We were delighted to hear that Rebecca had recorded a music video for ‘Whisper Thin’. However, we’re even more thrilled to be able to share its exclusive premiere with you today.

The video itself is stunning, and captures the emotion of the song in a simplistic yet powerful manner. Directed by Tom Ruddock from Story Culture, with Yannick Hausler directing the photography, the video is beautifully shot, slowly switching from close ups of Rebecca to the panning of landscapes. One of our favourite shots is of Rebecca playing the cello on the beach. The instrumental is spine-tingling and reiterates that she is a woman of many talents.

Talking about the creative process behind the video, Rebecca said: “Tom understood exactly where I wanted to go with the video and how to capture the different emotional nuances of the song in the visual medium. Artistic simplicity and honesty were crucial to this immensely personal project and so it helped that we’ve known each other for a long time. We were kindly given permission to shoot at an absolutely stunning location which was invaluable in enabling us to create this beautiful expression of ‘Whisper Thin’.”

When we heard the emotional song for the first time, we had high hopes that Rebecca would deliver a truly special video. It’s safe to say that she has exceeded our expectations. It’s not often that a video takes our breath away, but ‘Whisper Thin’ does just that.
