Two years since his last solo release, EXO’s KAI eases back into the spotlight with Wait On Me, his fourth mini-album—and it doesn’t shout to be heard. Arriving just in time for summer, the project flows with a soft, magnetic pull, unfolding like a whispered invitation. There’s no flash or spectacle here, only quiet confidence and intentional restraint. With its fluid sound and tactile rhythm, Wait On Me leans into subtlety, sensuality, and poise—KAI, fully in his element, inviting listeners to come closer rather than keeping them at arm’s length.
The lead single, also titled “Wait On Me”—produced by British producer Jacob Aaron (ATEEZ, ENHYPEN)—opens with a quiet intensity, blending Afrobeats-inspired percussion with hypnotic synths. It’s a patient, intoxicating groove, anchored by KAI’s signature velvety vocal, that explores the emotional tension of anticipation. The track’s slow build mirrors its message: “Patience can be powerful,” KAI seems to suggest, both lyrically and structurally.

For KAI, this comeback is as personal as it is performative, mirroring his own journey. “There’s excitement and joy, sure,” he shared ahead of the release, “but also nervousness, even pressure.” After time away, Wait On Me feels like a reintroduction, not just to music, but to the fans who stayed with him. “I see my albums as memories I build with EXO-Ls. If this one brings them happiness, that’s enough for me.”
The project is far from one-dimensional. “Walls Don’t Talk” rides a reggaeton pulse with sultry, late-night allure, while “Pressure” blends trap beats, 808s and flute melodies into a meditation on resilience. “Flight to Paris” taps into UK club energy, pairing Jersey Club rhythms with introspective lyrics. Other standouts include the techno-hip hop hybrid “Ridin’,” co-written with Duckwrth, and “Off and Away,” a textured Amapiano track that explores emotional detachment with finesse. The dreamy pre-release single “Adult Swim” set the tone earlier this year—globally attuned yet unmistakably personal.
And fans won’t have to wait long to see it live. KAI is embarking on a 10-city solo tour, with a major stop at London’s Allianz Twickenham Stadium for SMTOWN Live this June. That’s 35 million album equivalents into EXO’s career, and KAI is still finding new ways to surprise. Is Wait On Me is any indication, this new chapter isn’t about reinvention, but instead, it’s an evolution —and KAI’s proving he hasn’t missed a beat.
