It has just been announced that Foo Fighters will be taking to the stage at the BRIT Awards on February 21. Despite having won four BRITs in the past, this will be the band’s first performance at the awards ceremony.

Taking to Twitter, frontman Dave Grohl said: “How the fuck have we never played at #BRITs before!?!?! We’ve had a ton of firsts over in the UK…you guys have always been so good to us. Why not add 2018 BRIT awards to the list??!?!? Let’s make some noise. See you there, Dave.”

Having sold over 25 million records, not to mention selling out several world tours, Foo Fighters are arguably one of the most successful bands in the world. Their ninth album, Concrete and Gold, topped the UK chart back in September. In terms of BRITs success, the band won both International Album and International Group at the 2008 BRIT Awards. They also took home the International Group award in 2012 and 2015.

BRITs Chairman & CEO and Chairman of Sony Music UK & Ireland Jason Iley said: “Anyone who was lucky enough to witness one of their shows on the recent sold out UK tour, or their set at Glastonbury – which was undoubtedly one of the best performances the festival has ever seen and a night that will be talked about forever – will know why Foo Fighters are the biggest and most exciting rock band in the world. Quite remarkably they have never performed at The BRITs, so I am over the moon to confirm a massive BRITs exclusive to have them grace our stage.”

Foo Fighters will be joining Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Stormzy and Dua Lipa on the performing line up, with more artists to be announced.

The nominations for the BRIT Awards 2018 will be announced this Saturday (January 13) during a live show on ITV. In addition to finding out this year’s nominees, we will be treated to live performances from Clean Bandit, J Hus, Liam Payne, Paloma Faith and Critics’ Choice 2018 winner Jorja Smith.

The BRIT Awards 2018, hosted by Jack Whitehall, takes place at London’s O2 Arena on February 21.
