A huge congratulations to George Ezra who has finally claimed his first ever UK number one single with ‘Shotgun’.
After climbing to number two last week, ‘Shotgun’ has now managed to knock last week’s number one, ‘Solo’ by Clean Bandit and Demi Lovato, from the top spot with a lead of over 6,500 sales.
George has been close to reaching the top spot on two previous occasions. His debut single ‘Budapest’ reached number three in 2013, whilst earlier this year his single ‘Paradise’ peaked at number two.
Speaking to OfficialCharts.com, George said: “I never thought that this would happen. The thing that’s most amazing about it is the fact that all of you out there are sharing the song and playing it loud and enjoying it with your summer, which is exactly what I wanted. I can’t thank you enough.”
George also shared his delight with Radio 1’s Scott Mills. He said: “This is it now, it’s done, no-one can take it away from me. It’s so strange. The reason it’s so strange is because I never thought I would be able to. Not because of my ability, but I just thought it was for other people but look at me now!”
