Mr. Winkler is suing Warner Bros as according to him they ‘cheated’ him out of the smash hit movie ‘Goodfellas’ profits.
Mr. Winkler has announced he never received the profits the film made via home videos after the studio publically announced they were making a loss.
Mr. Winkler has said this was: ‘studio accounting on steroids. It was also fraud.’
Mr. Winkler who also produced ‘Rocky’ and ‘Raging Bull’ has stated he is entitled to 50% of the profits. He goes on to accuse Warner Bros that they hid $140 million of their actual receipts.
A spokesperson for the studio has said: ‘the allegations are baseless and we will vigorously defend.’
Mr. Winkler only found out about these concealed profits last year. To make matters worse apparently Warner Bros hid the profits on purpose from Mr. Winkler.
Ironically Mr. Winkler’s lawsuit falls on the 25th anniversary of the film, however, regardless of the outcome, ‘Goodfellas’ will still be remembered as one of the best movies of our time.
