The Great British Bake Off is a much loved baking show, watched by millions every single week.

But unfortunately one of the contestants has been targeted and received sickening racial abuse while in the street.

Rav Bansal is one of GBBO’s current contestants and took to Twitter to speak of his disgust over being referred to as a “p*ki”  by a stranger.

So today I was asked 'are you the p*ki on the not so British bake off?' Really, in 2016? ?

The 28-year-old Sikh has currently made it through to the third week on the show.

He did not reveal any more details about the incident but fellow GBBO contestants have flocked to his Twitter to show their love and support.

His co-star Benjamina Ebuehi responded, writing:

Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened.

Ali Imdad, who took part in the programme in 2013, tweeted Bansal, saying:

oh Rav, I still get it. It's an unfortunate part of being on Bake Off.
I throw chapattis at them now.

After receiving lots of support from fans, Bansal then shared his gratitude and appreciation with another tweet.

Thank you for all the kind messages, I am fine, honestly ? It's Friday and the weekend is in touching distance, all good!! #PositiveVibes

Last year’s Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain has also opened up about her own experience of being a victim of racist abuse.

As a British Muslim she has often received racial abuse and sadly she “expects it now”.

Speaking on a recent edition of Desert Island Discs, she stated: “It has happened. Through my early teens when you had big things happening in the news like September 11 … you do get abuse and I did get abuse.”

“I’ve had things thrown at me and been pushed and shoved. It sounds really silly because I feel like that’s just become part of my life now.”

“I expect it. Absolutely I expect it.”

    Racism is never acceptable.

Go and show Rav Bansal some love on Twitter.

    Always spread positivity, not hate.
