Halsey has released the female empowerment anthem of the year as she gets all fired up on her latest single ‘Nightmare.’
The punk-inspired single touches on the hardships of being a woman in 2019, being dictated what us women can and cannot do by a man, how you should look and so on. Two of the most telling lyrics from the song state ‘I’ve trusted lies and trusted men‘, hinting at previous relationships and encounters from the men that have been present in her life. She adds “I’m tired and angry, but somebody should be” at the world that we are currently living in. It is a fiery female empowerment anthem saying that as women we can do whatever we want.
The accompanying music video showcases different sides to Halsey; androgyny, glamour, punk, gore and sexy. Paired with models Suki Waterhouse and Cara Delevingne, the video celebrates the diversity of women and how we are not one dimensional and should not be silenced.
Nightmare marks her first solo single of 2019, following her collaborations with Blink-182’s Travis Barker and Yungblud on ‘11 Minutes’ and the smash hit collaboration with global phenomenon BTS on “Boy with Luv.”
Halsey has skyrocketed to being the new IT girl with her diversity in music and her unapologetic outspoken nature, making it her mission to never be silenced on important topics such as LGBT rights, POC rights and women’s rights. Her previous single ‘Without Me’ topped the Billboard Hot 100, making this her first #1 as a solo artist. The track has already been certified platinum in the UK and triple platinum in the States, making this her most successful solo track of her career.
Halsey has gone from strength to strength with each era and we cannot wait to see what this album will bring her.
