Rising pop singer-songwriter Hannah Jane Lewis has released her brand new self-titled EP.
The four-track EP includes the previously released ‘Last Night Every Night’ and ‘Do It Without You’, in addition to new track ‘Not Yours Never Was’ and a cover of Jimmy Eat World’s ‘The Middle’.
Whilst we love the two previously released tracks from the EP, Hannah truly comes into her own on ‘Not Yours Never Was’. Produced by Lostboy (Anne-Marie, Gabrielle Aplin), and co-written by Hannah, Karen Poole (Kylie Minogue, David Guetta) and Jonny Lattimer (Ellie Goulding, Nina Nesbitt), ‘Not Yours Never Was’ is a sassy slice of anthemic pop which sees Hannah claim back her power after a situation with a guy in high school.
Speaking about the track, Hannah said: “‘Not Yours Never Was’ is actually about a time in high school when a guy I knew decided to completely blow a situation between him and I way out of proportion to make him look cooler – ‘locker room talk’ as some may say!
“This song is calling him out for lying and all about taking the narrative and power back! It feels a bit like a girl power anthem for me, and is my favourite song to sing in my live shows. I wrote it a couple years ago now with the very talented Jonny Lattimer and Karen Poole, and am so happy it is finally out!”
The EP also includes a stunning version of Jimmy Eat World’s 2001 coming-of-age single, ‘The Middle’. Whilst some may think that the choice of cover is rather unexpected, in a handwritten note on Twitter, Hannah explained the impact the song has had on her life and how much it means to her.
