Australian singer, songwriter, and YouTuber Troye Sivan is celebrating his 21st birthday today! Troye has accomplished so much in the past year. He has released his debut album, Blue Neighbourhood, toured North America and Europe, won a GLAAD Award for ‘Outstanding Music Artist’, was selected as Kia’s One to Watch, and performed at the Billboard Music Awards. He has so much to be proud of, and so many great things to come.
It’s a special birthday for Troye, since 21 is the legal drinking age in America. It seems like he has some exciting plans for today!

There have been a few fan projects for Troye’s birthday, some of which his mom, Laurelle Mellet, (@mamamellet on Twitter) has been retweeting all day! One standout was this fan video, in which some of Troye’s fans have particularly… special messages for him. You have it watch for yourself, but if you’ve seen Caspar Lee’s five million subscribers video, you have a good idea of what the video will be!

To celebrate Troye’s birthday, let’s take a look at five of our favourite songs of his!
1. Youth
To start off the list, we have Troye’s hit song, Youth. The song celebrates the spontaneity and fun of being young and in love. The music video involves a house party with beautiful pink and purple lighting, and features his friends Amandla Stenberg and Lia Marie Johnson. He has performed this song on the Billboard Music Awards, The Ellen Show, and the Tonight Show, and it is certified Gold in the U.S. This song is light, fun and great to dance to!

One of the most romantic songs on Blue Neighbourhood, “for him” is about a quiet, yet intimate relationship, that doesn’t need to be flaunted to be real. We love the album version with rapper Allday, but this live version showcases an exclusive fourth verse with beautiful lyrics, such as “We’re not a commercial for everyone else, we go out for coffee and keep to ourselves.” Definitely check this song out if you haven’t already!
3. Happy Little Pill
This is the song that really kicked off Troye’s music career, and helped him make the difficult transition from YouTube to music.The song has a very chill vibe, and is accompanied by quotable lyrics and a very aesthetically pleasing music video. It’s amazing to see how much he’s grown and matured since the release of this song on the TRXYE EP!
4. Heaven
One of the deeper, more personal songs on Blue Neighbourhood, this song discusses Troye’s internal struggle of wanting to go to heaven and being gay at the same time. He opens up his thoughts in this simple lyric “If I’m losing a piece of me, maybe I don’t want heaven.” The impactful lyrics are accompanied with beautiful, breathy harmonies and features Betty Who, whose voice complements Troye’s perfectly. This is a song many fans have been able to relate to, and they are grateful for Troye expressing thoughts that they may have had as well.
5. The Blue Neighbourhood Trilogy (Wild, Fools, & Talk Me Down)
This may be our favourite project of Troye’s! Demonstrating his true artistry and creativity, he took three seemingly unrelated songs, Wild, Fools and Talk Me Down, from his EP “Wild”, and made music videos with a heartbreaking story that wove them all together. The trilogy tells the story of two boys who grew up together, fell in love, but couldn’t be together due to one’s homophobic father. This trilogy makes us cry every time we watch it, so be sure to have a box of tissues close by!
