It seems like every week or so we receive new information about Netflix’s upcoming series of Sabrina The Teenage Witch. Let us stop you there before you think this is going to be the happy-go-lucky Sabrina Spellman we all knew and love when the show originally aired in the late ‘90s. This adaptation is taking a whole new look and will be based more so on the Archie Comics characters. So if you’re familiar with Riverdale, expect to see just as dark storylines take place in this version of Sabrina. She’ll still be figuring out how to live a “normal” life as a half-witch, half-mortal but the forces against her will be much more… evil.

Also, the official series name is apparently still TBD. So while we wait on the official title, we’re breaking down what we know about Netflix’s version so you don’t have to read five different webpages about the topic. Here we go:

All the main characters have been casted

    • Taking center stage will be Kiernan Shipka who will play the legendary Ms. Sabrina Spellman who will be attending Baxter High.
    • Lucy Davis (Wonder Woman) will play Sabrina’s Hilda Spellman. You remember, the one with a better sense of humor?
    • Miranda Otto (Homeland) will portray the role as the strict aunt Zelda Spellman. You’ll remember Zelda, she goes by the book and is not as free as Hilda. In this version, Zelda is very keen on serving the Dark Lord as a member of the Church of Night. (via Deadline)
    • Richard Coyle will play Father Blackwood. New name in the game. According to Deadline.com: Coyle’s Father Blackwood, is High Priest of the Church of Night and Dean of the Academy of the Unseen Arts. Ruthless and ambitious, Blackwood hides a terrifying dark agenda that will put him in direct conflict with Sabrina (Shipka) and other members of the coven.
    • And we have a Salem:

This was originally supposed to be on the CW

You know, to go hand in hand with Riverdale. However, this was switched to the popular streaming site which was already promised two seasons, 20 episodes total. The show shouldn’t stray too far from Riverdale’s vibe. Familiar names will all be diving in to help with the show: Lee Toland Krieger (director of Riverdale’s pilot episode), Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (who wrote Riverdale’s pilot episode & will executive produce this new series), Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. TV.  (via Deadline)

This will all be based off the popular Archie Comic

We may have mentioned this in the beginning but yes, this Sabrina will be based off Archie’s Comic: The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. And this version is set in 1960s! Not sure if the series will take place there too but knowing that this was published via Archie Horror… It’s no wonder people are saying this will be a split between The Exorcist and Rosemary’s Baby. Maybe we should sleep with the light on after binge-watching?

There will be a big bad in the series

Remember how Mr. Kraft seemed hell-bent on making Sabrina’s life a living hell? It looks like this is happening to Sabrina in this version but… again, darker. Actress Michelle Gomez will take the role as Sabrina’s favorite teacher, Mary Wardell, who will somehow, some way be possessed by the Devil’s Handmaiden Madam Satan (via Sunday Express).

Sabrina will have a roommate… Sort of

Actor Chance Perdomo will play Ambrose Spellman, her warlock cousin from England. He will be placed under house-arrest by the Witches coucil and forbidden to leave the funeral home aka Zelda & Hilda’s home (via Variety).
