Ian Somerhalder certainly hasn’t seen the last of the vampire genre as he will soon be starring in a new Netflix series, V-Wars, based on the graphic novel series by Jonathan Mayberry.
The ex-Vampire Diaries star will play a character called Doctor Luther Swann who is trying to stop the spread of a vampire disease by finding a cure. His best friend, Michael Fayne, becomes infected and sooner or later becomes the underground leader of the vampires.
According to Deadline, Somerhalder will not only act in the upcoming ten-episode series, but also direct some of the hour-long episodes. Having said this, it’s Brad Turner who will be directing the pilot episode of the show and executive produce.
Executive producer and president at IDW Entertainment, David Ozer, said:
We could not have dreamed of a better choice than Ian Somerhalder to bring his keen understanding of this genre from his years of starring in The Vampire Diaries to lead the cast of V-wars as Dr. Luther Swann and to be a creative force on this series, as well as to serve as a director this season.

This is the actor’s first major role since he finished The Vampire Diaries back in 2017.
