This week saw Iggy Azalea and Alice Chater team-up for the incredible new single and music video, titled “Lola”. Many will recognise the sample that has been used as it’s “Mambo Italiano” originally sung by Rosemary Clooney and the Mellomen. This release follows up Iggy Azalea’s official second studio album In My Defense, and Alice Chater’s single “Tonight”.
Iggy Azalea, real name Amethyst Kelly, is an Australian hip-hop artist, who really started at the bottom and has now really earned her place in the rap music industry and she continues to prove herself time and time again. She’s had a bunch of various hits, namely “Fancy” featuring Charli XCX, “Black Widow” featuring Rita Ora, as well as featuring on Ariana Grande’s “Problem”. She’s one of these acts that keep us all guessing, unsure of which path she’s following, and so she creates her own path when it comes to music. She is now an independent artist, releasing the music she wants. She finally released her sophomore album In My Defense, which spawned the singles, “Sally Walker”, “Started”, instant grat single “Just Wanna“, and “F**k It Up” featuring Kash Doll. The album is totally epic, but that is no surprise since she had originally planned to drop Digital Distortion as her second studio album, but it got cancelled – so the five-year wait was totally worth it. She had planned to re-issue the album with her new releases, but her new music went in a different direction, so this new single “Lola” is the first single from her forthcoming EP, titled Wicked Lips.
As for Alice Chater, she is a rising British pop artist who is one of the ones to watch in the coming years. She launched onto the music scene with covers including Mariah Carey’s “Vision of Love” and Madonna’s “Hung Up”. 2018 saw her release original song “Girls X Boys” leading on to fantastic singles “Heartbreak Hotel”, “Hourglass“, “Wonderland (My Name Is Alice)”, “Thief”, and “Tonight”. Her most-streamed song on Spotify is her feature on the Professor Green song “Got It All”. We even got the chance to interview her at BST Hyde Park. She’s been working with some of the biggest names in the industry such as will.i.am, Rami Yacoub, Carl Falk, and Bonnie McKee. We believe she’ll become a household name in the next couple of years, watch this space.
According to Spotify, this song has been written by Alice Chater, Amythest Kelly, A. Cygnaues, D. Gavin, Dhani Lennevald, and Kee Ingrosso, whereas it has been produced by Carl Falk and J. White Did It. The music video which accompanies the song has been directed by Iggy Azalea and Thom Kerr, it also stars Thelma Gudmunds as one of the nurses.

The song is addicting, and it’s hard not to love it based off the sample of “Mambo Italiano” – we can’t help but hear the beat although we’re so going to be singing these new lyrics to the track. Vocals from Alice Chater are perfection, she’s fierce and confident, and this is bound to push her into the limelight even more, as for Iggy Azalea, she brings it like we know she can and her rap focuses on duality and bipolar, as well as different personalities.
It’s the music video that fully stands out, we’ve got a total of seven overall looks (including the hospital gowns), with both Iggy Azalea and Alice Chater serving in every single one of them. It’s great to see Alice Chater wearing different wigs and not just having her signature style, and it’s brilliant to see all the connections to different personalities and the idea of duality – especially with the pills, which is a big concept within the visual. We also adore the green straight-jacket costumes, they are incredible, and we love some of the choreographed moves, especially Iggy Azalea when they’re being moved by the nurses through that corridor – she manages to show some fire and sass.
“Lola” is available to download and stream right now, via Bad Dreams Records and Empire. Iggy Azalea’s upcoming EP, titled Wicked Lips, is set to be released on November 15, which is just days away – we cannot wait!
