We had a chance to chat with Simon Doty, a Canadian producer, DJ and recording artist. We asked him about his latest releases, upcoming project, tour, and his recent collaboration with Purified Records.
Hey, Simon Doty! Welcome to CelebMix! For those of our readers who are not familiar with your music, could you tell a few words about yourself?
Hey! Thanks for having me – I’m a DJ and producer from Canada, currently living in Toronto. I’ve been releasing music over the past 10 years and most recently I’ve been working with Anjunadeep, Knee Deep in Sound, Realm and Purified.
Congrats on your new release of a remix of Oliver Schories & Fredrik Ferrier’s “Heaven.” Will you tell us more about this drop?
Thanks! Yeah, Nora En Pure and her label manager Abel approached us about remixing Heaven. I’m a huge fan of Oliver Schories and the original track so it was an easy decision. The Original was pretty deep so I decided to make a more driving, clubby version.
What does your creative process look like? How would you describe your sound?
I have a decent number of analog synths and drum machines. So for me it usually starts by just jamming around and having fun and seeing what I come up with. I think I would class my sound as melodic club music. I always want there to be a groove and a vibe while also staying emotional and melodic.
Recently you have been working with Nora En Pure’s Purified Records. How did your collaboration start, and how does it work for you?
Yeah, I had a friend from Toronto (an artist named Crimsen) who had done a release with Purified and he had said they were great to work with so I decided to send a few demos to Nora. She responded within about 30 minutes and said she wanted to sign the tracks. They have been great to work with and Nora and the Purified brand are really growing quickly.
You have been really busy with your tour! What is your favourite place you have played at so far, and which of the upcoming gigs do you look forward to the most?
There have been a ton of amazing shows. I think the Anjunadeep Explorations festival in Albania was really a special one that stands out. Ya I’m super excited to be going to Australia and India for the first time soon and also very excited to be playing at ABGT500 in LA.
What are your plans for the rest of the year? Any new approaching releases?
Yes I have a couple more tracks that will be released this year and then I am finalising an album that will be coming out in April next year!
